  • Publication number: 20140335879
Abstract: Interference may be detected in a cellular network by receiving signals at a target base station in a quiet resource block in which no uplink transmissions to the target base station are scheduled to occur, identifying a plurality of user equipment attached to base stations neighboring a target base station as interfering user equipment, reconstructing signals transmitted by the interfering user equipment, removing the reconstructed signals from the signals received by the target base station in the quiet resource block, and determining interference in the signals from which the reconstructed signals are removed. Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamically targeting optimization of network elements in a network are described. In some embodiments, the systems and methods identify one or more network elements (e.g., cells) that are newly added to a network that is associated with currently running automated network optimization processes, optionally group the identified one or more network elements into temporary element lists that are based on shared parameters for the one or more network elements, compare the one or more network elements and/or the temporary element lists to element inclusion policies of the automated network optimization processes, and update the automated network optimization processes based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8824289
Abstract: A wireless device includes a data structure that relates peak channel capacity to the quality of the wireless communication link. The wireless communication link quality forms an index to indicate the expected peak channel capacity for that particular quality value of the wireless communication link. The wireless device uses the data storage structure to determine an expected data transfer throughput based on the quality of the wireless communication link. A transfer rate lower than expected may indicate congestion in the core network or the RAN. In this case, the network may slow the data delivery from the data source or temporarily suspend delivery. Conversely, low data throughput may be the result of a poor quality wireless communication link. If the data structure indicates that the data throughput corresponds to the expected throughput for the quality value of the wireless communication link, the system need not take any steps to reduce congestion.

  • Patent number: 8824971
Abstract: A system and method are described for dynamic temperature calibration of a frequency reference in a wireless base station. In a consumer grade base station, a reference oscillator may encounter frequency drift as the temperature of the base station changes. This causes interference as the transmission signal is not synchronized with other frequency resources in a network. An improved method of calibrating a reference frequency includes measuring a frequency difference between a frequency derived from an accurate reference frequency in a first base station and a frequency derived from a less accurate frequency reference in a second base station, determining a calibration factor for the offset, and applying the calibration factor to the base station to correct frequency drift. The calibration factors may be correlated with an operating temperature of the base station and stored in a temperature calibration table in the base station device.

  • Publication number: 20140226704
Abstract: A method is provided for reducing the peak power level in a combination of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) tones. The method is particularly effective when the information to be communicated is digital data consisting of long patterns of “1”s or “0”s. The digital data of the message is combined with a scrambling vector before the data is modulated. The randomization of data patterns, in turn, leads to a more random combination of OFDM tone amplitude being transmitted. The message is recovered at the receiver by removing the scrambling vector. An OFDM communication system using the above-described method is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20140206343
Abstract: A method for handling a jamming signal in a wireless network includes obtaining network measurement data collected by a wireless network element. A first performance information relating to a Key Performance Indicator, data collected during a quiet time, or a report on a bogus Physical Random Access Channel signal, or a combination thereof, is selected from the network measurement data. The first performance information is examined with respect to a first reference information. An action is initiated if the examination of the first performance information indicates the presence of a potential jamming signal.

A first performance information on the wireless network performance is derived based on the network measurement data obtained. The first performance information is examined with respect to a predefined value. An alert is issued to indicate a presence of a potential jamming signal based on a result of the examination of the first performance information.

  • Patent number: 8737926
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for coordinating the scheduling of beamformed data to reduce interference in a wireless system. A customer premise equipment (CPE) uses a plurality of bits to quantize the phase angle of the beamformed data received by CPE and reports it to its serving base station. The serving base station selects one of the phase adjustment angles based on the bits received from the CPE in order to schedule the data transmission to the CPE. The phase adjustment angles are in “n” degree steps.

  • Patent number: 8713196
Abstract: A data communications system includes a controller device and multiple client devices communicating with the controller device through a shared data communications link. The controller device is configured to determine a usage based multiplier value for each of the client devices and monitor the data communications link for congestion. When it is determined that a threshold congestion level has been exceeded, the controller applies a rate-limiting scheme, based on the determined usage based multiplier values, to reallocate client device bandwidth over the data communications link.
