  • Patent number: 5297452
Abstract: A transmission system for a motor vehicle with two powered axles has an engine aligned perpendicular to the driving direction and a transmission parallel to the axis of the engine shaft and includes an angle gear housing flangemounted on the side of the transmission housing, both housings having a lubricant supply for centrifugal or splash lubrication of the corresponding gear parts. The lubricant supplies, which are separated from each other by a partition, are interconnected by at least one first partition opening which serves as a lubrication inlet and at least one second partition opening which serves as a lubrication return. The second partition opening is located not below a first horizontal plane which passes approximately through the lower edge of a shaft bearing arrangement in the partition for the connecting shaft and the first partition opening is located above a second horizontal plane which passes approximately through the uppermost second partition opening.

  • Patent number: 4768281
Abstract: Lamellar clutch discs consisting of sheet steel and arranged in an enclosed housing filled with a viscous liquid medium for a fluid friction clutch are described. To achieve a torque transmission behavior of the clutch that will remain constant over long periods of time, the surfaces of the discs are to exhibit a roughness with an arithmetic mean rugosity R.sub.a in the range between 0.2 and 2 microns and a profile depth P.sub.t in the range between 2 and 15 microns. Furthermore, the distance between neighboring elevations of the rugosity profile is to lie in the range between 50 and 750 microns, and the surfaces are to have a wear-reducing nickel-phosphorus coating.

  • Patent number: 4697621
Abstract: A method is described for filling a fluid friction clutch having a drive and a driven side with sets of clutch plates, whose housing, closed off from the outside, is partially filled to a relatively high degree with a viscous liquid medium as well as a device for practicing such method. To permit precise filling of the fluid friction clutch conformably to its characteristic, the housing of the fluid friction clutch is connected to a filling means delivering a viscous liquid medium. Further, the fluid friction clutch is connected to a drive means generating a drive torque on the drive side and to a torque measuring means gauging the torque transmitted by the clutch on the driven side. Depending on the results of a comparison made during operation of the drive means between the actual value of the torque transmitted and a preassigned target value, the filling means is actuated so as to fill the housing with an amount of fill that will yield the target torque value.
