  • Publication number: 20240035761
Abstract: A supplemental propulsion system for a weapon used to fire a projectile includes a barrel and chamber to hold a projectile round. A translating pressure tank surrounds a portion of the barrel, and the pressure tank is configured to translate along the barrel. A recoil spring assembly includes a spring and a pressure plate downstream of the chamber for holding the projectile round. The pressure tank is coupled to the pressure plate such that the spring is configured to stretch upon firing of the projectile and translate the pressure tank along a length of the barrel. The barrel includes a first port configured to selectively align with a first tank port during translation, for the discharge of pressurized gas from the pressure tank. The discharge of pressurized gas occurs rearward of the projectile as it passes through the barrel after firing.

  • Publication number: 20230288154
Abstract: A firearm propulsion system for releasing a projectile from a firearm includes a firearm having a chamber, a barrel, and a firing pin with a primer. A supply port is passed through at least one of the barrel and the chamber so as to reach the interior. A control valve is in communication with the supply port and is configured to regulate the passage of pressurized gas into the at least one of the barrel and the chamber from the supply port. A sensor is included in the chamber and is configured to detect the location of the projectile passing through the chamber after firing the firearm. A control system communicates with the control valve and the sensor to selectively release pressurized gas into the chamber after firing.

  • Patent number: 11306800
Abstract: A speed and torque optimizer for a drive train includes an input shaft coupled with a primary driver having a pinion gear thereon that engages an input ring gear. The input ring gear is affixed to a first end of a carrier shaft having an output ring gear on an opposing end. The output ring gear engages an output pinion gear mounted on an output shaft. The input ring gear is larger in diameter than the output ring gear and therefore has more teeth. Because the input and output ring gears are mounted on the same shaft, they rotate at the same speeds thereby rotating the output pinion gear at a faster speed than the input pinion gear. The intermeshing gear teeth have a predefined curvature, pitch diameter and length to further accomplish increased speed at the output shaft while minimizing torque loss.

  • Patent number: 6766708
Abstract: In a first embodiment of the invention, a gear ratio multiplier has directly cooperating gears which serve to rotatably connect an input shaft to an output shaft through an intermediate shaft. The input and output shafts have parallel axes of rotation and extend, respectively, from seals in opposite sides of a housing. The inner ends of the input and output shafts are spaced from one another and are each provided with a pinion gear. The intermediate shaft is rotatably carried between the pinion gears and has an axis of rotation positioned at right angles to the axes of rotation of the input and output shafts. A pair of differently sized ring gears having different numbers of teeth are affixed on the intermediate shaft. The pinion gear on the input shaft engages the ring gear on the intermediate shaft whereas the pinion gear on the output shaft engages the ring gear on the intermediate shaft. The diameter pitch is a matter of advise per application as is the tooth size and tooth number.

  • Patent number: 5913938
Abstract: A gear reduction assembly having directly cooperating gears which serve to rotatably connect an input shaft to an output shaft through an intermediate shaft. The input and output shafts have parallel axes of rotation and extend, respectively, from seals in opposite sides of a housing. The inner ends of the input and output shafts are spaced from one another and are each provided with an identical pinion gear. The intermediate shaft is rotatably carried between the pinion gears and has an axis of rotation positioned at right angles to the axes of rotation of the input and output shafts. A pair of differently sized ring gears having different numbers of teeth are affixed in a back-to-back relationship on the intermediate shaft. The pinion gear on the input shaft engages the relatively smaller ring gear on the intermediate shaft whereas the pinion gear on the output shaft engages the relatively larger ring gear on the intermediate shaft.
