  • Patent number: 4517034
Abstract: A modified aluminum alloy 3004 composition comprising by weight 0.5-1.5% magnesium, 0.5-1.5% manganese, 0.1-1.0% iron, 0.1-0.5% silicon, 0.1-0.4% chromium, 0.0-0.25% zinc and 0.0 to 0.25% copper, the balance being aluminum. Webs of one inch or less in thickness formed from the alloy by continuous strip casting can be fabricated into non-galling, low earing can stock suitable for deep-drawing and ironing into high buckle strength two-piece beverage containers.

  • Patent number: 4476911
Abstract: A diecasting process for producing cast pieces for metals or their alloys by means of a horizontal cold chamber diecasting machine. The diecasting machine includes a diecasting mold held under a vacuum, a fill chamber coupled to the diecasting mold, a holding furnace containing metal melt, a suction pipe partially immersed in the holding furnace and coupled to the fill chamber, means for transporting metal melt from the holding furnace through the suction pipe into the fill chamber under a vacuum, and means for moving the metal melt from the fill chamber into the diecasting mold. During the dosaging phase when the fill chamber is filled with metal melt, gases and lubricant vapors are developed upon entry of the melt into the fill chamber.

  • Patent number: 4057100
Abstract: A hot head continuous casting mold process and assembly wherein a separating and/or lubricating agent reservoir is provided in the mold, the agent being applied through channels over the surface of the mold wall by passage from the reservoir into a cavity defined by the mold wall, the hot head and the surface of molten metal. The removal of the agent from the reservoir is due to the pumping action produced during the casting operation by the shifting of the molten liquid meniscus.
