  • Patent number: 6719563
Abstract: The invention relates to a driving simulator, particularly for simulating the movements of earthbound vehicles. To take into account the special features of the movements of earthbound vehicles, the proposed driving simulator has a carrier unit that has a rigid floor platform, on which a test vehicle can be mounted. The carrier unit also includes at least one projection surface and at least one projector, and at least three movement modules, each of which has a wheel that rolls on a floor surface. The wheel can be steered, relative to the axis extending perpendicular to the floor, via a first drive, and can be driven by a respectively associated second drive.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 13, 2004
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft

  • Publication number: 20020103581
Abstract: A testing method determines the rollover resistance of a vehicle. In a first step, the intrinsic rolling frequency of the vehicle is determined and, in a second step, the vehicle is excited by a steering frequency which corresponds to one third of the intrinsic rolling frequency. At least temporarily, a range of the maximal frictional connection potential is reached at least approximately.

  • Patent number: 5987395
Abstract: In the case of a process for measuring the distance between a motor vehicle and an object, in the vehicle, in the case of a short distance of the object, the output signals of a first measuring device with a corresponding measuring range and, in the case of a longer distance of the object, the output signals of a second measuring device with a correspondingly longer measuring range are taken into account in a dominating manner. The measuring devices are constructed as analysis devices. The output signal of a single receiver for a single distance generator is supplied to the analysis devices as an input signal. The analysis devices analyze this input signal via an analysis process which is characteristic of the shorter or the longer distance range.

  • Patent number: 5448480
Abstract: An electronic control unit for steering the back wheels of a road vehicle. The unit has a steering device that controls the steering angle of the back wheels in response to an emergency steering signal, has sensors for at least steering angle, traveling speed and degree of steering wheel lock, and has a calculating unit having two computers. Control signals derived from sensor signals are supplied to each of the computers. Each of the computers independently evaluates the control signals and independently outputs an emergency steering signal to the steering device in an emergency.

  • Patent number: 5107425
Abstract: In the case of a control system for adjusting devices of a motor vehicle which, in addition to a basic mechanical function, carries out an additional function which can be achieved by electronic devices, having at least one sensor for an input value, one computer for converting the input value to an output value for a control element assigned to the additional function, and having an emergency device for an emergency measure in the case of an occurrence of a failure, the measures according to the invention are that a function chain consisting of the function step sensor(s), the computer(s) and an emergency device assigned to the control element, in contrast to the singly existing control element, have a redundant construction, that the elements of the function chains, which have the same effect, are monitored with respect to the same effect, and in that the emergency measure is triggered, when elements of the function chains which have the same effect exhibit a deviation by a given measurement.

  • Patent number: 4786065
Abstract: An arrangement for steering the rear wheels of motor vehicles as a function of the steering deflection of the front wheels, with mechanically decoupled steering means for front and rear wheels and a transmission element for the adjustment of the steering means of the rear wheels corresponding to the steering deflection of the front wheels; the rear wheels are thereby adjusted in the same direction as the direction of the front wheels only after the lapse of a short period of delay time whereby the delay time is the smaller and the steering deflection of the rear wheels in relation to the front wheels the larger the higher the driving velocity.
