  • Publication number: 20160025020
Abstract: System, apparatus, and methods are disclosed for a computing a first set of parameters based on operational states of an internal combustion engine and an air handling system, a second set of parameters based on a linear time varying model, and one or more control commands based upon a minimization or maximization of a cost function over a prediction horizon, the second set of parameters, and at least one physical constraint of the internal combustion engine, and controlling one or more operations based at least in part upon the one or more control commands. The acts of determining the first and second set of parameters and computing the one or more control commands are repeated over a plurality of time periods over which the first set of parameters and the second set of parameters are time variant.

  • Publication number: 20150361915
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling performance characteristics of a vehicle are provided. A system for controlling performance characteristics of a vehicle includes a memory storage device including at least one torque curve profile stored thereon. The at least one torque curve profile includes a mapping of accessible torque for the vehicle with respect to an engine speed of an engine coupled to the vehicle. The system also includes an electronic control unit operatively coupled to the memory storage device, the electronic control unit configured to re-map the at least one torque curve profile in response to receipt by the electronic control unit of an electronic signal indicating a change in a vehicle condition.

  • Publication number: 20150328586
Abstract: A method and system for mitigating a urea deposit within an SCR system that includes determining a mass of an accumulated urea deposit present within the SCR catalyst and SCR piping, comparing the mass of the accumulated urea deposit with a deposit upper threshold limit, and initiating an SCR regeneration event when the mass of the accumulated urea deposit is greater than the deposit upper threshold limit. The method further includes determining an amount of NH3 passing through the SCR catalyst downstream of the urea deposit, comparing the amount of NH3 passing through the SCR catalyst with an NH3 regeneration threshold limit, and terminating the SCR regeneration event when the level of NH3 passing through the SCR catalyst is less than the SCR NH3 regeneration threshold.

  • Publication number: 20140033683
Abstract: A method includes determining whether a urea refill event is detected, and clearing a quality accumulator value and clearing a latching abort command. The method includes determining whether urea fluid quality check abort conditions are met, and clearing the urea quality accumulator, latching the abort command, and exiting the reductant fluid quality check. In response to the abort conditions not being met, incrementing the urea quality accumulator according to an amount of urea being injected, and comparing the accumulated urea quantity to a low test threshold. The method includes, in response to the accumulated urea quantity being greater than the low test threshold, comparing the accumulated urea quantity to a high test threshold, and in response to the urea quantity being greater than the high test threshold, determining whether the a NOx exceedance is observed and clearing a urea quality error in response to the NOx exceedance not being observed.

  • Patent number: 7950222
Abstract: A system and method are provided for cleaning combustion soot from an exhaust gas aftertreatment sensor. The system and method determine whether to conduct a sensor desoot event, and if it is determined that a sensor desoot event is to be conducted, the exhaust gas temperature is increased such that the temperature of the sensor correspondingly increases to or above a desoot temperature, the exhaust gas temperature is then controlled to maintain the temperature of the sensor at or above the desoot temperature for a predefined time period, and the exhaust gas temperature is then decreased after the temperature of the sensor has been at or above the desoot temperature for the predefined time period.
