    Abstract: At least a method and an apparatus are presented for efficiently processing film grain while encoding or decoding video. For example, the method comprises receiving film grain information that comprises at least one parameter that specifies an attribute of the film grain associated with an image block; applying a transform to a block of random values; filtering the transformed block, the filtering being defined by at least one parameter in the received film grain information; applying a respective inverse transform to the filtered transformed block to generate a block of pixels with film grain pattern for the image block. Advantageously, the transform is a core transform of a video coding standard, for instance one of DCT-II, DCT-VIII, DST-VII.

    Abstract: An image is split into a plurality of blocks of various sizes and a subdivision level counter is associated to each of the blocks. The value of this subdivision level counter for a block is representative of the size of the block and is used to determine the quantization parameter for the block. The value is propagated for each subdivision and incremented according the type of the subdivision. When the image is split, an analysis is done according to the subdivision level counter, a maximal value of subdivision and the type of split, in order to determine the start of a new quantization group and when it is the case, the current position of the partition is propagated to the further split partitions to be stored with these partition and serve in the prediction process when decoding.

The generator network may be trained to generate synthesized scenarios. The trained discriminator network may be applied to detect when a vehicle encounters an out of operational design domain (ODD) scenario. Some methods described also include controlling the motion of the vehicle in response to an output of the trained discriminator network indicating that the vehicle is encountering the out of operational design domain (ODD) scenario. One method can include capturing an image of a physical space, dividing pixels of the image into presumably well-lit and presumably not well-lit categories based on an intensity threshold, generating an evidential illumination map for the image based at least partly on a comparison between a value of each pixel to the intensity threshold, and projecting the evidential illumination map onto data representing a three-dimensional scan of the physical space. Evidential values can enable an autonomous vehicle to more safely navigate spaces using camera data by enabling programmatic determination of uncertainty for the camera data.
