  • Patent number: 9019841
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives downlink data from a base station via a downlink resource, sends the downlink data to a user equipment (UE) via an uplink resource, receives uplink data from the UE via the uplink resource, and sends the uplink data to the base station via the uplink resource. The apparatus also determines at least one of an observed downlink signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) or an observed uplink interference. The apparatus then broadcasts a relay availability based on the determination that the at least one of the downlink SINR observed is greater than a first threshold or the uplink interference at the relay is less than a second threshold.

  • Patent number: 8520650
Abstract: A method of wireless communication includes splitting data into n data sets, where n is greater than or equal to two. In addition, the method includes selecting n different resources associated with a resource identifier based on a hopping pattern for sending each of the data sets within a set of resources of one full set of transmissions. The selected n resources have a hopping pattern such that there is at least one resource of the n resources that is non-overlapping in time with resources associated with resource identifiers other than said resource identifier. Furthermore, the method includes sending m data sets on m selected resources in m transmissions within the one full set of transmissions, where m is less than or equal to n.

  • Patent number: 8116283
Abstract: An Access Network (AN) can send an acknowledge message (ACK) to an Access Terminal (AT) to indicate that the AN has successfully decoded the data received in the first set of slots of the first data packet. The AN can send a negative acknowledge message (NAK) to the AT to indicate that the AN has not successfully decoded the data received in the first set of slots of a first data packet. Based upon receipt of the NAK, the AT can resend the data by sending a second set of slots of the first data packet containing redundant data. Based upon receipt of the ACK, the AT can send a first set of slots of another packet. The AT can gate off for a predetermined period of time after sending the first set of slots of a first packet and before sending a next set of slots.

  • Patent number: 8094623
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting a serving sector in a high rate data (HDR) communication system are disclosed. An exemplary HDR communication system defines a set of data rates, at which a sector of an Access Point may send data packets to an Access Terminal. The sector is selected by the Access Terminal to achieve the highest data throughput while maintaining a targeted packet error rate. The Access Terminal employs various methods to evaluate quality metrics of forward and reverse links from and to different sectors, and uses the quality metrics to select the sector to send data packets to the Access Terminal.

  • Publication number: 20100046497
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for quick retransmission of signals in a communication system are disclosed. A transmitting terminal, e.g., a base station, transmits signals in a form of packets to a receiving terminal, e.g., a subscriber station. The receiving terminal determines if the packet was intended for the receiving terminal, and if so, the receiving terminal demodulates the packet. The receiving terminal then computes a quality metric of the packet, and compares the computed quality metric with a quality metric contained in the packet. If the quality metrics match, the packet is declared correctly received, and is forwarded for further processing. If the quality metrics fail to match, the receiving terminal sends a request for retransmission of the packet. The transmitting terminal determines which packet needs to be retransmitted based on the request for retransmission. The transmitting terminal then schedules the packet for retransmission.

  • Patent number: 7525909
Abstract: A method and an apparatus of dynamically setting a rise-over-thermal (ROT) threshold to control user-to-user interferences in a wireless communication system are disclosed. The ROT threshold is set by determining whether an outage of communication has occurred, increasing the ROT threshold by a predetermined increment if the outage has not occurred, and decreasing the ROT threshold by a predetermined decrement if the outage has occurred.

  • Patent number: 7515580
Abstract: In a data communication system capable of variable rate transmission, the data rate is determined by the largest C/I measurement of the forward link signals as measured at the Access Terminal. In one embodiment, the data transmission is scheduled based on an Access Terminal initiated forward power control, which reduces forward link rate quantization loss due to excess transmit power. The Access Terminal reports to the Access Point the excess C/I estimate for the selected rate. The Access Point then reduces its transmit power by an appropriate amount when serving that Access Terminal. In another embodiment, the data transmission is scheduled based on an Access Point initiated forward power control. The Access Point varies its transmit power over time either randomly or in synchronism with neighboring Access Points in the communication system, which enables an increase in the throughput achieved by users that receive a significant amount of interference.
