  • Publication number: 20050180349
Abstract: The high quality PCS communications are enabled in environments where adjacent PCS service bands operate with out-of-band harmonics that would otherwise interfere with the system's operation. The highly bandwidth-efficient communications method combines a form of time division duplex (TDD), frequency division duplex (FDD), time division multiple access (TDMA), orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), spatial diversity, and polarization diversity in various unique combinations. The method provides excellent fade resistance. The method enables changing a user's available bandwidth on demand by assigning additional TDMA slots during the user's session.

  • Publication number: 20050181373
Abstract: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the gene encoding micromolar calcium activated neutral protease (mu-calpain) effect meat tenderness in bovine. These SNPs correspond to position 18 of exon 9 of Seq. ID No. 3, position 17 of exon 14 of Seq. ID No. 4, and position 185 on intron 19 of Seq. ID No. 4, of the CAPN1 gene encoding mu-calpain. Alleles wherein the SNP at position 18 of exon 9 encodes alanine at amino acid 316 of bovine mu-calpain, the SNP at position 17 on exon 14 encodes valine at amino acid 530 of bovine mu-calpain, and the SNP at position 185 on intron 19 is an cytosine, are all indicative of increased meat tenderness. Any one or all of these SNPs may be used as markers for selecting bovines having superior meat tenderness, and selecting animals for breeding purposes.

  • Publication number: 20040223476
Abstract: An exemplary access station for wireless communications includes: a wireless input/output unit that is configured to establish multiple access points; and signal transmission/reception coordination logic that is capable of ascertaining that an access point of the multiple access points is receiving a signal and that is adapted to restrain at least one other access point of the multiple access points from transmitting another signal responsive to the ascertaining that the access point is receiving the signal.

  • Publication number: 20040224637
Abstract: In an implementation of directed wireless communication, a multi-beam directed signal system coordinates directed wireless communication with client devices. A transmit beam-forming network routes data communication transmissions to the client devices via directed communication beams that are emanated from an antenna assembly, and a receive beam-forming network receives data communication receptions from the client devices via the directed communication beams.

  • Publication number: 20040204114
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are proved which allow a wireless communication system using a smart antenna(s) to selectively cause a receiving device to switch its operative association from one transmitted beam to another available transmitted beam.

  • Publication number: 20040174299
Abstract: Wireless communication and beamforming is improved by depopulating one or more ports of a passive beamformer such as a Butler matrix and/or by increasing the order thereof. In an exemplary implementation, an access station includes: a Butler matrix having “M” antenna ports and “N” transmit and/or receive (TRX) ports; wherein at least a portion of the “M” antenna ports and/or at least a portion of the “N” TRX ports are depopulated. In another exemplary implementation, an access station includes: a Butler matrix that has multiple antenna ports and multiple TRX ports; a signal processor; and a signal selection device that is capable of coupling the signal processor to a subset of the multiple TRX ports responsive to a signal quality determination, the signal selection device adapted to switch the signal processor from a first TRX port to a second TRX port of the subset of TRX ports.
