Abstract: Disclosed is a digital image production apparatus comprising: a print engine having a plurality of trays each of which is capable of accommodating different types of recording sheets; a user interface; and an electronic control system controlling print processing, including control of supply of recording sheets from the trays in accordance with sheet specifications of print jobs. Such a control system has access to a memory which stores for each tray the type of recording sheets presently accommodated therein, and when the type of recording sheet required for a job is not available in any of the trays, indicates, through the user interface, the required type of recording sheet and invites an operator to place recording sheets of the required type in a specific tray.

Abstract: A reproducing device for reproducing images, such as a photocopier/printer, which has an interface that enables selection of a value for at least one predetermined parameter from among a predetermined set of possible values of the parameter. This parameter defines at least in part how at least one image is to be reproduced. The reproducing device includes: an image source, such as a scanner; a printer; the interface; and a controller for coordinating and controlling the image source, the printer, and the interface.

Abstract: A scanner device, and the method it embodies, for scanning a document. The scanning includes a pre-scan and a subsequent main scan, with the pre-scan generating data related to the document. The scanner device includes: a scanning assembly having a platen against which the document is positioned and a mobile portion movable along the platen; a document moving device for moving a document in a first direction onto the platen; a mobile-portion-moving device for moving the mobile portion of the scanning assembly in a second direction opposite to the first direction; and a controller for controlling the document moving device and the mp-moving device, and for controlling the scanning assembly to scan the document while the document and the portion of the scanning assembly are both moving. This, for example, substantially reduces instances in which the mobile portion is moving without scanning taking place.
