  • Patent number: 4436366
Abstract: Contacting a rough cut optical fiber end to a light-transmissible, hardenable material supported on a smooth substrate and thereafter hardening the material to form a smooth flat light transmissible surface at the end of the fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 17, 1981
Date of Patent: March 13, 1984
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
    Inventor: Edward A. Abramson
  • Patent number: 4435037
Abstract: An optical connector for coupling a semiconductor light source to an optical fiber transmission line. A light source such as a light emitting diode is mounted on a movable post within a housing in juxtaposition to the end of an optical fiber centered within a channel in a connector housing. The optical fiber is held stationary whereas the post supporting the light emitting diode is moved by a probe inserted through multiple aligning ports until the diode is properly positioned for optimum light coupling into the fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 6, 1981
Date of Patent: March 6, 1984
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Edward A. Abramson, Peter K. Townsend
