  • Publication number: 20150033282
Abstract: Concepts and technologies are disclosed herein for decoupling hardware and software components of network security devices to provide security software as a service in a distributed computing environment. A computer system includes a processor that can execute computer-executable instructions to perform various operations. The processor can perform operations to provide security services to one or more customer platforms. The operations can include receiving a network security software component from a security service provider, and deploying the network security software component within a distributed computing environment so that the network security software component can be executed by a computing resource of the distributed computing environment to provide a security service to the customer platform(s). The network security software component includes a software component that has been decoupled from a hardware component of a network security device by the security service provider.

  • Patent number: 8755826
Abstract: Information relevant to internet security is received at a data center server. Such information, for example, a network intrusion alert or details on a recent outbreak of an network virus, may be examined to determine the nature and scope of the security-related information. A security alert is promptly generated in response to the information, using previously stored multimedia content divided into categories of security alerts and/or multimedia content generated at the data center shortly after receiving the security information. The security alert is then disseminated to a plurality of mobile device users. The alerts may be disseminated only to the users associated with a certain security event category, or may be sent to different groups of users depending on other relevant criteria.

  • Patent number: 7926107
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for collecting, analyzing, verifying, producing, and broadcasting security data. Internet security-related information may be broadcast continuously from a data center over a broadcast channel, such as a webcast. As additional security related information is received at the data center, the data is analyzed and video content is produced to describe the incoming data. Video content may take the form of urgent near real-time security alerts, or pre-scheduled programs describing recent news and developments related to internet security. In an alternative embodiment, security news alerts are multi-cast to a selected group of users and the news alert data encrypted so that the group of users may trust its source.

  • Publication number: 20060256729
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a network security service and network security infrastructure to detect, identify, mitigate, neutralize, and disable worms through distributed worm probes that can be linked to centralized monitoring systems for emergency response process is disclosed. The worm probes track packets with destination unreachable errors on a per source IP address basis. In one embodiment, when the number of such errors exceeds a predefined local threshold, e.g., within a predefined local time period at a worm probe, the count of such errors as well as the source IP address will be sent to all other worm probes in the network as an alert. When the number of such errors exceeds a predefined global threshold, e.g., within a predefined global time period, traffic from the endpoint device with the identified source IP address will be blocked to prevent that endpoint device from spreading worms further.
