  • Patent number: 11461241
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to managing data in a file system. A file system that includes a file storage tier and a cache storage tier may be provided. An amount of hot blocks present in the cache storage tier that are associated with a heat score that matches a maximum heat score value may be determined. In response to the amount of hot blocks exceeding an amount threshold value further actions may be performed, including: determining each cooldown block in the cache storage tier based on each heat score associated with each block in the cache storage tier; and decrementing the heat score associated with each cooldown block. In response to one or more blocks in the cache storage tier being read, the heat score associated with the one or more blocks being read may be set to the maximum heat score value.

  • Patent number: 11347699
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a file system engine that provides a file system that includes a plurality of blocks on a file storage tier with portion of the blocks associated with a cache storage tier. A cache engine provides heat extents that include a heat score and a run length value such that the heat extents are represent activities associated with the blocks. Heat extents associated with file system activities are determined based on a position of the blocks that corresponds with the run length values of the heat extents and sectors on the file storage tier. Heat scores associated with the heat extents may be modified based on the activities and distribution models to conform the heat extents with the distribution models. Blocks associated with heat scores that are less than a threshold value provided by the distribution models may be disassociated from the cache storage tier.

  • Publication number: 20120042354
Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to entitlements clearance. For example, an entitlement clearance request may be received from a provisioning application. The entitlement clearance request may comprise an indication of a subject entitlement and an indication of a subject user. An indication of user characteristics describing the subject user and an indication of existing entitlements held by the subject user may be received. A plurality of entitlements conflict rules may be applied to the existing entitlements, the subject entitlement and the user characteristics to determine whether an entitlements conflict exists in view of the subject entitlement. In addition, a completion indication of whether the entitlements conflict exists in view of the subject entitlement may be returned.

  • Patent number: 7805309
Abstract: A conversational user interface (CUI) is implemented in a computer by mimicking the organization and retrieval of linguistic memories of human conversation. To mimic the organization of linguistic memories in a human brain, the artificial memories are stored as sequences of patterns, are stored in invariant form, are organized hierarchically, and are recalled auto-associatively. To mimic the recall of linguistic memories in a human brain, the same algorithm performs the recall of the various memories. Each artificial memory is a pairing of the invariant representation and an associated responsive message. When a received utterance is determined to match the invariant representation of a memory, the memory is evoked and the associated responsive message is presented to the person.

  • Patent number: 7464404
Abstract: A method of progressive response for invoking and suspending blocking measures that defend against network anomalies such as malicious network traffic so that false positives and false negatives are minimized. When a truncated secure session attack is detected, the detector notifies protective equipment such as a firewall or a router to invoke a blocking measure. The blocking measure is maintained for an initial duration, after which it is suspended while another test for the anomaly is made. If the attack is no longer evident, the method returns to the state of readiness. Otherwise, a loop is executed to re-applying the blocking measure for a specified duration, then suspend the blocking measure and test again for the attack. If the attack is detected, the blocking measure is re-applied, and its duration is adapted. If the attack is no longer detected, the method returns to the state of readiness.
