    Abstract: Silicone hydride (Si--H) can be produced on the surface of silicone rubbers by plasma treatment of silicone rubber in the presence of hydrogen or an inert gas such as nitrogen, helium, neon or argon in a plasma chamber which is substantially free of oxygen and oxygen-producing compounds. The silicone hydride can then be used as a grafting site for the covalent attachment for many substances, including bioactive molecules.
