  • Patent number: 4490909
Abstract: A travelling pipe cutter for cutting of pipe having a frame defined by a pair of spaced, interconnected plates with guide rollers thereon for movably supporting said frame for travel around a pipe, a gear box positioned between said frame plates and having a feed drive shaft extending from opposite sides thereof and through said adjacent frame plates, chain means extended around the pipe and drivingly connected to drive sprockets at opposite ends of said feed drive shaft, a cutter drive shaft extending from the gear box and through a curved slot in one frame plate and in spaced parallel relation with the feed drive shaft, the gear box being rotatable about the axis of the feed drive shaft relative to the frame to adjust the distance of the cutter drive shaft from the pipe, drive mechanism for rotating the drive shafts including motors mounted for movement with the gear box and gearing in the gear box which interconnects the motors to the drive shafts, and an adjustable connection between the frame and the gea

  • Patent number: 4483106
Abstract: A weld sander for smoothing the surface of a weld which joins lengths of pipe. The weld sander has a carriage which travels around the pipe and movably mounts a head carrying a grinding belt, with the belt mounted for movement toward and away from the weld and also for tilting movement. Pipe followers, associated with the head, control the minimum distance of the belt from the pipe sections and, additionally, establish a minimum distance between an edge of the belt and a pipe to prevent engagement between the belt and a pipe when the belt tilts.

  • Patent number: 4411178
Abstract: A pipe end preparation machine having a frame supportable in oriented relation from and beyond an end of a pipe, a tool head mounted on the frame for rotation about an axis, a tool slide mounted on the tool head for carrying a tool for movement along a path radial to said axis, a drive mechanism including a remotely controllable motor for advancing said frame toward the pipe end to provide axial feed for the tool, and drive mechanism for advancing said tool slide to provide radial feed for the tool including a remotely controlled motor which can be controlled to vary the radial feed rate in a continuous controlled manner. The remotely controllable motors for radial and axial feed of the tool permit threading, facing, and turning operations as well as other operations wherein circular interpolation effectively provides a third tool axis of movement as provided by the two axes of movement derived from the radial and axial feed.

  • Patent number: 4318391
Abstract: A pile-cutting machine for cutting multi-sided piles, such as square piles, having a frame which can be clamped to the pile at a desired location, a carriage mounted on the frame for movement in a continuous path around the pile and a cutting head carried by the carriage with a power-driven cutter positioned relative to the carriage to be at full cutting depth in a pile as the carriage moves along a straight side of the pile and, thereafter, to automatically withdraw from the pile as the carriage swings in travelling around a corner of the pile and subsequently move to full cutting depth in the pile as the carriage advances along the next straight side of the pile.

  • Patent number: 4144867
Abstract: A cutting machine for concrete piles and the like having an annular elongate frame positionable around a concrete pile, with first and second sets of guide members in spaced-apart relation to align the frame with the pile, first and second sets of movable clamps for locking the frame to the concrete pile, annular track means on the frame and a cutter head with drive means movably mounted on the annular track means and having a cutter-carrying arm movable across the top of the frame to engage the wall of the concrete pile.
