Patent number: 5579932Abstract: A tamper-indicating, child resistant closure for a threaded bottle includes an inner cap and an outer driver telescoped over the inner cap. The inner cap includes a top wall having spaced apart upstanding ribs. The outer driver includes a top wall having a pair of top wall segments hinged for pivotal movement to, and being spaced apart from each other by a spacing rib also forming part of the top wall of the driver. Each of the top wall segments initially is secured to contiguous sections of the outer driver by frangible, tamper-indicating tabs, and the top wall segments are moved from a generally horizontal position to a generally vertical position after the tamper-indicating tabs have been broken to form a driving section in the top wall of the driver. This driving section then is directed into the space between the upstanding ribs associated with the top wall of the inner cap by moving the inner cap and outer driver axially toward each other.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Lincoln Mold and Dye CorporationInventors: Edward J. Patent number: 5033632Abstract: A tamper-evident closure includes a cap having an interior, threaded peripheral skirt, a tamper-evident ring disposed below the lower edge of the skirt and a plurality of elongate bridge members interconnecting the tamper-evident ring to the cap. Each bridge member includes a lower end forming a lower juction with the ring an upper end thinner than the lower end forming an upper juction with a surface of a recess formed in the skirt. Each bridge member is designed to break at the upper end thereof when the closure is rotated in a direction to remove it from the container, and each bridge member is inclined upwardly at an acute angle to the ring from the lower to the upper junction, in the direction in which the cap is required to be rotated to remove it from the container.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1990Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Lincoln Mold and Die CorporationInventors: Daniel Mattia, Edward J. Patent number: 4860738Abstract: A hand held metered spray dispenser including a housing, a nozzle on the housing, a fluid container in the housing, an orifice in the housing, and a converter pivotal to the housing for converting a manual force applied through the orifice along a manual force axis to a force moving the container along a pumping axis transverse to the manual force axis to dispense a metered amount of fluid through the nozzle along a dispensing axis substantially coincidental with the pumping axis.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: Schering CorporationInventors: Manfred K. Hegemann, Edward J. Drozd, Jr.

Patent number: 4547332Abstract: The method of forming a tamper-evident closure having a threaded cap and a tamper-evident ring removably connected to each other by break-away tabs. The method includes the steps of molding the threaded cap and tamper-evident ring as an integral unit in a side-by-side relationship to each other and with the break-away tabs integrally connecting them. A retaining lug is also molded on the ring and has a substantially inwardly directed surface. An outwardly directed shelf and cam means are also molded on the cap. After the molding operation, the integrally molded part is removed from its mold and the tamper-evident ring and the threaded cap are moved relative to each other with the break-away tabs acting as a hinge to enable the cap and tamper-evident ring to be brought into substantial vertical alignment with each other while the inwardly directed surface of the retaining lug is snapped over the shelf to hold the cap and ring in alignment.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1984Date of Patent: October 15, 1985Assignee: Captive Plastics, Inc.Inventor: Edward J. Patent number: 4545508Abstract: A container lid such as a lid for a parmesan cheese container or the like, having a plurality of independently operative openings which is formed of a one piece two layer central bulk access and peripheral crescent-shaped broadcast construction, and which provides a substantially airtight seal for the container, which permits the container to be repeatedly and readily opened and closed, and which selectively permits bulk removal and access to the interior of the container, or the broadcast of the contents of the container through one or more limited access openings in the closure.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1983Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Assignee: Kraft, Inc.Inventors: B. Patent number: 4516697Abstract: The present invention provides a hand dispenser for a liquid product that includes a resilient closed container mounted upon a base. The container, which has a discharge port connected to a dispensing orifice for the liquid product, is movable between a first position, which closes the discharge port and makes the dispenser adapted for traveling, shipment, and the like. The container also has a second position, which opens the discharge port and places the dispenser in the dispensing mode. The dispenser, when in the dispensing mode, is manually operated by squeezing the container, which dispenses a portion of the liquid product; upon return of the resilient container to its original shape, the level of the liquid drops, and a lesser pressure is created in the air pocket over the liquid product, thus causing atmospheric air to press back any movement of liquid product toward the dispensing orifice.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1982Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Assignee: Captive Plastics Inc.Inventors: James R. Dreps, Edward J. Drozd

Patent number: 4489843Abstract: Tamper-evident closures include a threaded cap and a tamper-evident ring removably connected to each other by break-away tabs adapted to break when the cap is rotated in a direction to remove it from a cooperating container. The cap and ring have cooperating surfaces for transmitting closing rotational movement of the cap to the ring to thereby rotate the cap and ring together during closing of the container to thereby prevent separation of the cap from the ring at the break-away tabs. The ring further includes at least one locking surface adapted to engage a corresponding surface on a container to prevent the ring from rotating in the opening direction of rotation, whereby rotation of the closure to open it will cause relative movement between the cap and ring to sever the break-away tabs. A method of molding the cap, tamper-evident ring and break-away tabs as a single member also constitutes a part of the invention, as well as the particular container constructions adapted to cooperate with the closures.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1983Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Captive Plastics, Inc.Inventor: Edward J. Drozd, Jr.
