  • Patent number: 4137144
Abstract: An improved hollow bipolar electrode unit for use in an electrolytic cell is disclosed, comprising at least one connecting device within the hollow region of the electrode unit to provide mechanical support and electrical communication between the anode and cathode of such bipolar electrode.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 1976
Date of Patent: January 30, 1979
Assignee: Hooker Chemicals & Plastics Corp.
    Inventor: Edward J. Kenney
  • Patent number: 4132622
Abstract: A hollow bipolar electrode is provided which comprises an anode member and a cathode member. Each member has a base structure and a plurality of removably attached blades or plates extending from the active surfaces of the base structures. The blades or plates are arranged to intermesh when the elctrodes are arranged in a cell. In a preferred embodiment the blades are comprised of a plurality of nested U-shaped sheets.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1977
Date of Patent: January 2, 1979
Assignee: Hooker Chemicals & Plastics Corp.
    Inventor: Edward J. Kenney
  • Patent number: 4006110
Abstract: A heavy duty built synthetic organic detergent powder is made without the need for phosphates or carbonates in the formulation thereof by preparing a base product, such as by spray drying an aqueous mix of an anionic synthetic organic detergent and alkali metal silicate, for example, a crutcher mix of higher linear alkyl benzene sulfonate, sodium silicate, sodium sulfate and water, in certain proportions, spraying a nonionic detergent onto the dry base and blending with it a powdered anti-redeposition agent. The product made is a free-flowing detergent of desired density and particle size and the process is readily effected in a tumbling drum or twin shell blender without producing excessive lumping or tackiness.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 13, 1974
Date of Patent: February 1, 1977
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: Edward J. Kenney, Frank R. Smith, Jr., Walter A. DiSalvo
  • Patent number: 3971726
Abstract: Spray dried beads, having a low bulk density and high in alkali metal carbonate content and useful for post-treatment with additional amounts of nonionic detergent to produce a heavy duty detergent compositon of a bulk density in the range of 0.2 to 0.35 gram per milliliter, are made by admixing a small percentage of alkali metal soap of higher fatty acid with a 40-75% solids content aqueous crutcher mix comprising the alkali metal carbonate and up to about 2% by weight nonionic detergent heating the crutcher mix to 170.degree.-190.degree. F. and spray drying the mixture.
