Patent number: 6875187Abstract: A knee brace including a lateral hinge component and a medial hinge component, a lower member encompassable about a lower leg portion and having a lateral element and a medical element each extending upwardly and connectingly engaged respectively to the hinge components, an upper member encompassable about an upper leg portion and having a lateral element extending downwardly and connectingly engaged to the lateral hinge component and a medial element extending downwardly to a distal end terminating above the medial hinge component. The distal end has a configuration non-obstructingly complementarity to an upper shape of the medial hinge component for full and uninterrupted flexion of the lower leg at the knee joint. A medially disposed arm is connectingly engaged to the medial hinge component and extends upwardly from the hinge component to be adjacent the medial element of the upper member for connection to each other with a releasably securable slidable engager.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2002Date of Patent: April 5, 2005Assignee: Innovation Sports, Inc.Inventor: Edward L. Patent number: 5573259Abstract: A bicycle trailer comprising an elongate support member having proximal and distal ends, the distal end having a wheel depending therefrom and the proximal end being attachable, via a connector, to a conventional bicycle. In a preferred embodiment, the elongate support member is pivotally connected to the connector. The connector is mountable to a seat post of the bicycle and is further configured to allow the support member to rotate relative to the seat post. The support member includes at least one rack member attached thereto upon which objects may be placed and secured.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1994Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Inventors: Michael S. Castillo, Edward L. Castillo

Patent number: 5288287Abstract: A brace for supporting a knee joint is disclosed which is specifically adapted for use in athletic, i.e. sports, applications. The brace is formed by a pair of frame members disposed on opposite sides of the knee joint which are pivotally connected adjacent one end by way of ratio-swing hinge members. Attached to the inner surface of the lower frame member is a tibia pad which is used to provide a firm interface between the lower frame member and the portion of the knee joint adjacent the crest of the tibia. Means are additionally provided to adjust the position of the tibia pad relative to the knee joint. The brace further includes a patella cap which is positionable over the knee cap of the user.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1992Date of Patent: February 22, 1994Assignee: Innovation Sports, Inc.Inventors: James D. Castillo, Edward L. Castillo

Patent number: 5254078Abstract: A brace for supporting a wrist is disclosed which is specifically adapted to allow controlled regulated movement of the wrist during a healing process. The brace is formed by an anterior forearm plate which has a pair of elongate struts attached thereto. A hand brace is pivotally connected to the struts in a manner wherein the amount of pivotal movement of the hand brace may be controlled through the manipulation of a plurality of stop members which extend between the hand brace and the struts. The hand brace is further used to apply downward pressure to the posterior aspect of the user's hand to aid in the healing process. Such pressure is constantly maintained though pivotal movement of the wrist is permitted by the hand brace. A posterior forearm plate is releasably attached to the struts and is used to maintain the wrist brace upon the user's forearm.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Innovation Sports, Inc.Inventors: Peter R. Carter, John C. Gates, Edward L. Castillo

Patent number: 5135469Abstract: A brace for supporting a knee joint is disclosed which is specifically adapted for use in post-surgical applications. The brace is formed by an upper pair of struts and a lower pair of struts which are disposed on opposite sides of the knee joint and which include end portions which are pivotally connected by way of ratio-swing hinge members. A plurality of cuffs are provided which are used to interconnect the struts comprising the upper pair and the lower pair. Means are additionally provided to adjust the position of an upper strut and lower strut relative the cuffs.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1991Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: Innovation Sports, Inc.Inventor: Edward L. Patent number: 4886054Abstract: A brace for supporting a joint formed of a plurality of joint members is disclosed. The brace includes first and second frame members disposed on opposite sides of the joint to be supported, and first and second hinge members disposed substantially adjacent the joint and connected to the frame members to pivot the frame members about the joint. The frame members may be formed of separable portions engageable with each other at variable locations along the length thereof. Adjustment of the engagement location being effective to vary the orientation of at least one of the frame member portions with respect to at least one of the hinges. The brace is therefore adjustable to conform to lateral curvature of the joint members. The hinge members may be formed to regulate rotation of at least one of the frame members about the joint to provide close support to the joint members during unlocking of the joint.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1988Date of Patent: December 12, 1989Assignee: Innovation Sports, Inc.Inventors: Edward L. Castillo, James D. Castillo, Michael S. Castillo
