  • Patent number: 4487660
Abstract: The central conductor of a gas-insulated flexible cable consists of separate concentric tubes which are alternately spirally corrugated and annularly corrugated so that the corrugations will not nest relative to one another and are axially movable relative to one another.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 1980
Date of Patent: December 11, 1984
    Assignee: Electric Power Research Institute
Inventors: Philip C. Netzel, Edward M. Spencer
  • Patent number: 4440998
Abstract: A multi-pole circuit breaker has interrupters contained in respective housing sections which have two bushings extending perpendicularly from either end of the housing section. Each housing section is segmented at its center so that the two halves which are defined can rotate relative to one another whereby the bushings extending from the housing halves can have different angular relationships with respect to one another and the bushing-free ends can have different spacings. The circuit breaker can be used as an indoor or outdoor circuit breaker with common parts but the bushing spacing is altered by adjusting the angular relationship of the bushings relative to one another.
    Type: Grant

    Assignee: Brown Boveri Electric Inc.
Inventors: Lorne D. McConnell, Edward M. Spencer
  • Patent number: 4417094
Abstract: A gas-insulated high voltage cable for submersion in water has an increased internal gas pressure in the interior of the outer cable housings which are to be at a depth greater than 100 feet. The wall thickness of the housings may be the same as that of housing sections which are at external ambient pressure or at an external pressure given by immersion in water at a depth of less than 100 feet. The increased pressure is applied to the housings through the central conductor which is continuous for the cable.

  • Patent number: 4097681
Abstract: Gas-insulated electrical apparatus is connected to oil-insulated electrical apparatus within an intermediate oil-filled tank having an oil pressure lower than the pressure within the oil-insulated apparatus. If gas leaks into the relatively low pressure oil, the gas contaminated oil cannot leak into the oil-insulated equipment. The intermediate oil-filled tank has larger electrical clearances than the oil-insulated apparatus.
