  • Patent number: 6196051
Abstract: The apparatus includes a mixing chamber for mixing gas from a gas supply to be tested with air to form a gas-air mixture. The mixing chamber includes a gas inlet port through which the gas is received, an air intake port through which the air is received, and an outlet port through which the gas-air mixture leaves the mixing chamber. The apparatus includes a flow control valve that can be connected to the gas supply to enable a user to selectively adjust the flow rate of the gas from the gas supply to the apparatus. The apparatus also includes a mass flow sensor positioned between the flow control valve and the gas inlet port of the mixing chamber for measuring the mass flow rate of the gas flowing into the mixing chamber. A motorized fan is positioned in a conduit connected to outlet port of the mixing chamber for drawing the gas-air mixture out of the mixing chamber to a location where it can be sniffed by the user to detect odor.

  • Patent number: 6139468
Abstract: An automatic transmission control system having gearing that establishes multiple forward driving ratios and a reverse ratio as well as a neutral mode, an electrohydraulic control valve circuit for controlling the application and release of clutch and brake elements for the transmission gearing, a driver-controlled range selector for transmitting operator commands to shift control logic, and a failure mode management circuit that monitors the shift control logic and the response of the transmission system to operator commands, as well as the transmission range selector signals delivered to the shift control logic whereby multiple control redundancies in the electronic range control system ensure that system failures and component failures develop an error signal to alert the driver of possible malfunctions during the range selection period.

  • Patent number: 6056669
Abstract: An automated shifting system for a manual transmission having a neutral clutch connecting an engine to a multiple ratio transmission, the transmission having servo operated gear shift mechanism. A driver-controlled gear shift switching mechanism is used to activate the servos that effect ratio range changes. A gear shift switching mechanism includes multiple switches for triggering operation of the servos that control the ratio range changes. A range sensing redundancy strategy for the ratio range switches provide improved protection against an unintended change in direction due to three-bit separation between bits of the valid codes and to a range sensing switch failure strategy by identifying when a range change commanded by the driver exhibits a single-point fault condition.

  • Patent number: 5996396
Abstract: A microprocessor-based apparatus is provided for determining odor levels in gas streams. The apparatus includes a mixing chamber for mixing gas from a gas supply to be tested with air to form a gas-air mixture.

  • Patent number: 5696679
Abstract: An electronically actuated park control system for an automatic transmission for a wheeled vehicle including a transmission range selection control assembly that sends to a powertrain control module a park signal, the module being adapted to deliver an output signal to a park controller circuit for actuating electric actuator motors which activate a mechanical transmission park mechanism, the motors having position feedback monitoring features as the transmission park mechanism is engaged or disengaged, the controller and the park controller circuit having inherent design redundancies as well as independent watchdog circuitry that ensure that transmission park release or park application responds precisely to transmission range selector requests by the driver.

  • Patent number: 4251061
Abstract: A snap roller utilized as a snatch lock employs a pulley and a rod fabricated from a wire-like spring material to which the pulley is journalled. The rod has a portion of its length, located substantially in the central regions thereof to which the pulley is journalled. A pair of portions of the length of the wire-like rod extends radially outwardly from the longitudinal axis of the pulley in a direction substantially parallel to one another. The ends of the wire-like rod are formed into oppositely directed hooks such that each of the distal ends approach, and if desired contact the opposed length of the pair of portions of the wire-like rod. In use, a rope or line may be passed between the hook-like ends so so as to engage a groove in the pulley due to the fact that each hook-like end resides in planes that are skew to one another allowing the distal ends of the hooks to be forced outwardly from the opposed one of the pair of portions of the wire-like rod.

  • Patent number: 3971064
Abstract: The same AGC voltage as is developed in a television receiver to control the gain of its signal translating stages is additionally utilized by the described circuit to automatically de-peak its video response during the reception of relatively weak signals. The video response is automatically returned to its normal peaked condition during the reception of stronger signals--again, under control of the AGC voltage.

  • Patent number: 3967800
Abstract: A new and improved cloth-board reel is disclosed which utilizes two corrugated sheets bonded together eliminating the need for an intermediary sheet which was previously considered necessary. The cloth-board reel of the present invention provides the required strength without the more expensive construction previously considered necessary. The corrugated sheets are covered with a wrapper sheet which forms a smooth surface for the cloth and adds to the strength of the cloth-board reel.
