  • Patent number: 6386829
Abstract: A steam turbine has multiple valves for introducing steam into a steam turbine. Each of the input valves introduce steam flow around the entire the 360 degree arc. The set of nozzles are each divided into a plurality of chambers. Each set of chambers extends around the full arc of the turbine. Each set has a valve. The chambers are designed so that all valves are open when the turbine is running at maximum output. The chambers are sized such that valve throttling losses are minimized when the turbine is at its normal operating condition.

  • Patent number: 5116200
Abstract: The axial flow turbine has an asymmetrical flow input, for example, at the first nozzle plate and which flow is attenuated towards an axi-symmetric flow by a baffle plate located between the first nozzle plate and the second stage. The baffle plate directs the flow towards a more symmetrical flow pattern before permitting the flow to pass through the second stage. Consequently, the long turbine blades in the later stages of the turbine respond to an attenuated asymmetrical flow rather than a larger asymmetrical flow which might induce vibrations or vibrations at the natural resonant frequency of the turbine blading which could break the turbine blades.

  • Patent number: 4754652
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring the torque transmitted across coupled rotating shafts using load cells located between power imparting surfaces and power receiving surfaces of shafts rotating jointly about a common axis of rotation for directly determining the tangential driving force and, hence, the torque therebetween. The apparatus includes tubular spacers journaled together and supporting the shafts, load cells and power surfaces. In one form concentric overlapping spacers are provided with one spacer having a plurality of radially extending fingers projecting into corresponding slots in the other spacer. Load cells at the interface between the fingers and sides of the slots provide signals representative of torque.
