  • Publication number: 20030049112
Abstract: A mobile ramp access system for the transport of a wheeled device over a stair barrier between upper and lower elevations comprising a mobile ramp having a base with at least one wheel and a hinged ramp plate that arctuately rotates between an upper vertical position and a lower position extending between the upper elevation and the lower elevation of the barrier when the ramp is in use. The mobile ramp is moveable to the stair barrier when needed for transit of the wheeled device over the stair barrier. The ramp is a universal design that can be carried by the wheelchair user or stowed out of the way when not needed.

  • Patent number: 5944683
Abstract: A protection and treatment device for ankle, heel and elbow prominences of bed ridden patients in the form of a topically applied pressure resilient cushion adapted to be positioned on the skin adjacent the bony prominence in which a pad having a relatively flat surface conformable to the skin area at which it is applied contains a recess essentially to embrace the bony prominence and includes a perimeter section around the recess that abuts the skin around the bony prominence and supports the cushion against the body tissue adjacent the prominence. The cushion includes multiple sections having differing cross-sections and may be provided in adhesive and medicated configurations maintained in place by a.

  • Patent number: 5820294
Abstract: A pathway for providing the transit of a wheelchair, including a person therein, over an uneven terrain surface that resists the rolling traction of a wheelchair, comprising a longitudinally extended flexible mat-like pathway configured such that the surface of the pathway is relatively porous with respect to the terrain surface, such as by providing therein a plurality of openings, and is capable of receiving thereon, at opposite side sections thereof, the front and side wheels of each side of a wheelchair. The pathways may be interconnected to pod-like landing sites at recreational locations.

  • Patent number: 5685030
Abstract: A powered lift for facilitating the entry and exit of a person in a wheelchair 10 from the wheelchair and into a pool 2 and out of the pool back into the wheelchair including a platform support 19 secured to the pool deck to provide front sections 21 and 22 that define an opening there between and prevent movement of the wheelchair such that the wheelchair is positioned in operative relationship with a powered lift mechanism 30 such that a seat on the lift, which is optionally physiologically conformable, aligns with the forward edge of the seat of the wheelchair 15f in the upward extension of the lift to allow transfer of the person from the seat of the wheelchair to the seat of the lift and from the lift seat to the seat of the wheelchair in an essentially horizontal movement transverse to the forward edge of the wheelchair seat with the assistance of handrail guides 50.

  • Patent number: 5535470
Abstract: A sideways slidable pathway system for wheelchair users that permits the temporary deployment of pathways to allow the transit of a wheelchair with a person therein over a stair or stairway barrier, in which the pathway, which itself may comprise one or more separate pathways, are permanently secured to an anchor adjacent an access opening and are rotationally disposable and slidable with respect to a track from a position in which the pathway is stowed away and not in use to a position in which the pathway is disposed over the stair barrier so that transit can be accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5517708
Abstract: An access pathway is provided as a device that may be temporarily or portably deployed for wheelchair users accompanied by an assistant. The device, which is a pathway that may be carried by the user or provided at a site when required, is installed in cooperation with a pre-existing anchor at the site, and may be subject to temporary loan, such as from a central community service provider or a library. A convenient and inexpensive system is thus provided that achieves wheelchair access in many circumstances.

  • Patent number: 5499419
Abstract: An improvement in apparatus for assisting the transit of a person seated in a chair transport device in either direction between a lower level and an upper level in which a longitudinally extended pathway having upper and lower ends is disposed between the lower level and the upper level to accommodate a support on a side of a chair and in which the pathway includes at least one stop for maintaining the location of the chair at a predetermined location along the length of the pathway, the stop being at a location along the length of the pathway intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 5402546
Abstract: Access means for chair carried passengers embarking or disembarking an aircraft in which a pair of separate spaced-apart longitudinally extended pathways are disposed to traverse a stairway leading to the aircraft cabin, and the pathways each receive one side of the chair in the course of transport of the chair over the stairway, and the space between the spaced apart pathways is an opening which does not obstruct the footing surface of the stairway for the chair carrying personnel.

  • Patent number: 5353446
Abstract: A device for facilitating the assisted entry and exit of a person in a wheelchair (a) from the wheelchair into a body of water and (b) out of the water back into the wheelchair is disclosed in which a platform support has two forward sections that extend at least partially over the water and receive thereon a front wheel of each respective side of the wheelchair, such that the positional relationship of the wheelchair with respect to the water, when the wheelchair is disposed on the platform, is one in which at least a front portion of the front edge of the seat of the wheelchair, in a vertical orientation, is disposed over the water surface, and the movement of the person in the wheelchair, upon the person's movement from the wheelchair entering into the pool, and exiting from the pool back into the wheelchair, is an essentially direct vertical movement with respect to the water, uninterrupted by a physical barrier.
