  • Patent number: 7563008
Abstract: A condenser lens and a headlamp assembly employing the condenser lens improves control over the beam spread characteristics, while at the same time reduces the package size of the headlamp assembly. The condenser lens is provided for a projector-type headlamp assembly having a light source emitting light which is projected longitudinally downstream in front of a motor vehicle. The condenser lens generally includes a main body of light transmitting material. The main body defines a first surface receiving light from the light source and a second surface emitting the light. The second surface has at least one facet structured to spread the light and provide a predetermined beam pattern.

  • Patent number: 7554742
Abstract: A lens assembly for use with a light source and including an inner lens and a light directing portion. The inner lens collects light rays from the light source through a light-collecting face and emits at least a portion of the light rays radially through a series of collimators. The light directing portion may be an outer lens having light-collecting faces and light-distributing faces. The light-collecting faces correspond with the collimators and distribute the light rays through light-distributing faces. The light direction portion may alternatively be an outer reflector. The reflector has a plurality of light-reflecting surfaces, corresponding to the collimators, and configured to reflect the light rays emitted from the collimators.

  • Patent number: 7513665
Abstract: A headlamp module for a motor vehicle. The module includes a light source and a translucent member for internally reflecting the light rays so as to be directed. In one aspect of the invention, the light source is discretely positioned adjacent to a periphery defined by the exit surface so as to be directly hidden from view from the front of the vehicle. In another aspect, an outer surface of the light source is directly supported by the translucent member so that light rays emitted through an outer surface of the light source directly enter the translucent member.

  • Patent number: 7478932
Abstract: A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle having a light source, a chamber that receives the light source and a cooling channel for removing heat from the chamber. A conductive wall and an insulating wall cooperate to define the chamber and the channel. The conductive wall has a substantially higher thermal conductivity than the insulating wall to promote the heat exchange between the chamber and the cooling channel and to reduce heat exchange between the cooling channel and the relatively hot engine compartment.

  • Patent number: 7275848
Abstract: A headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed as having a light source, a chamber within which the light source is located, and a cooling channel extending through the chamber. The chamber substantially fluidly sealed from the atmosphere and the cooling channel is fluidly sealed from the chamber to prevent direct fluid exchange between the chamber and the channel. Heat exchange, however, is permitted between the chamber and the cooling channel. The heat exchange may be further promoted by a plurality of heat exchange fins extending away from the wall of the cooling channel.

  • Patent number: 6824284
Abstract: A lamp assembly including a number of light sources each utilized in conjunction with an optical element. The optical elements include a body of light transmitting material which further includes a top surface, a bottom surface, a front surface and a plurality of facets. The facets receive light through the front surface and reflect light through the top surface. The assembly further includes a manifold defined by the optical elements. When viewed in a direction toward the top surface, a majority of the optical elements have a common shape, preferably a pie wedge shape.

  • Publication number: 20040080835
Abstract: A lens assembly is disclosed for use with various light emitting sources. The lens assembly includes a central section and an outer section. The central section is radially centered on an optical axis. The outer section radially surrounds the central section and is radially centered on the optical axis. The outer section includes an outer wall that has a generally rotated parabolic shape, an inner wall that abuts the central section, and a slanted front surface extending between the inner wall and the outer wall. The front surface is the area of the lens assembly axially farthest away from the light emitting source.

  • Patent number: 6443582
Abstract: A lamp for emanating light includes a light source and a lens having an axis. The lens has a radially outward light entering surface to introduce light from the light source into the lens in the form of an intra-lens beam. The light entering surface is at a radially outward edge of the lens. The lens also has an axially outward light exiting surface and a lens back surface, which has reflective stepped faces spaced apart by connecting faces. The reflective stepped faces are arranged at an angle to the lens axis to intercept the intra-lens beam and reflect a reflected beam through the axially outward light exiting surface.
