  • Patent number: 9339143
Abstract: A method for determining a suitable parameter for a process of making a beverage by conducting fluid through at least one member containing at least one beverage ingredient in a beverage maker that receives and processes various types of beverage ingredient containing members, the method includes realizing a flow of fluid through a beverage ingredient containing member of a particular type; and measuring a characteristic of the flow which is influenced by a flow resistance of the beverage ingredient containing member. The method further includes comparing the measured flow characteristic to a set of predetermined flow characteristics associated with the various types of beverage ingredient containing members; and determining at least one parameter for a further process of making a beverage by selecting a parameter related to the predetermined flow characteristic to which the measured flow characteristic is closest.

  • Publication number: 20130287906
Abstract: A beverage maker comprises a chamber for receiving at least one member containing at least one beverage ingredient. During operation of the beverage maker, fluid is conducted through the member for the purpose of making a beverage. In order to be capable of determining suitable parameters for processing the member, the beverage maker comprises means for detecting at least one characteristic of a flow which is obtained when a flow of fluid is realized. Furthermore, the beverage maker comprises controller means for processing the detected characteristic, and memory means in which predetermined values of the characteristic are stored, wherein each predetermined value is associated with a specific type of member and at least one suitable parameter for processing the member. By finding the predetermined characteristic which is closest to the detected characteristic, a suitable parameter for processing the member which is actually present in the beverage maker is selected.

  • Patent number: 8490541
Abstract: A beverage maker (1) comprises a chamber (8) for receiving at least one member containing at least one beverage ingredient. During operation of the beverage maker (1), fluid is conducted through the member for the purpose of making a beverage. In order to be capable of determining suitable parameters for processing the member, the beverage maker comprises means (12) for detecting at least one characteristic of a flow which is obtained when a flow of fluid is realized. Furthermore, the beverage maker (1) comprises controller means (10) for processing the detected characteristic, and memory means (11) in which predetermined values of the characteristic are stored, wherein each predetermined value is associated with a specific type of member and at least one suitable parameter for processing the member. By finding the predetermined characteristic which is closest to the detected characteristic, a suitable parameter for processing the member which is actually present in the beverage maker (1) is selected.

  • Publication number: 20120174794
Abstract: A system for preparing a beverage includes a beverage maker and a cartridge that is removably arranged in the beverage maker. The cartridge includes a beverage making unit having a duct system for conveying flows of steam and flows of liquid. The duct system includes two combinations of ducts, where the arrangement of the ducts of each combination is configured to enable a flow of steam to perform a pumping action on a flow of liquid. The beverage maker includes a steam generator having two steam sockets each being in communication with another combination of ducts of the duct system.

  • Patent number: 8113107
Abstract: A system for preparing a beverage comprises a beverage maker (15) and a cartridge (10) that is removably arranged in the beverage maker (15). The cartridge (10) comprises a beverage making unit (1) having a duct system (30) for conveying flows of steam and flows of liquid. The duct system (30) comprises two combinations of ducts (31, 32; 41, 42), wherein the arrangement of the ducts (31, 32; 41, 42) of each combination is adapted to enabling a flow of steam to perform a pumping action on a flow of liquid. The beverage maker (15) comprises a steam generator (16) having two steam sockets (17, 18), wherein each of the steam sockets (17, 18) is in communication with another combination of ducts (31, 32; 41, 42) of the duct system (30). As each of the combinations of ducts (31, 32; 41, 42) is associated with a different steam inlet (36, 46), and the steam inlets (36, 46) may be located at different positions on the cartridge (10), it is achieved that the duct system (30) may be of a relatively simple design.
