  • Patent number: 10017447
Abstract: Methods of making azelaic acid, or derivatives thereof, from unsaturated monobasic acids or esters are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, the unsaturated monobasic acids or esters are C10-17 unsaturated monobasic acids or esters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 12, 2015
Date of Patent: July 10, 2018
    Assignee: Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc.
Inventors: Shubhada Dantale, Kathleen Havelka, Efimia Metsi-Guckel
  • Patent number: 9328055
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for refining natural oil feedstocks. In some embodiments, the methods comprise transesterifying glycerides in a natural oil feedstock to provide a transesterified product comprising monounsaturated fatty acid esters and polyunsaturated fatty acid esters. In some embodiments, the methods comprise separating the polyunsaturated fatty acid esters from the monounsaturated fatty acid esters (or vice versa), to provide a separated monounsaturated fatty acid ester composition having a ratio of at least 10 parts by weight of monounsaturated fatty acid esters for every 1 part by weight of polyunsaturated fatty acid esters.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 16, 2015
Date of Patent: May 3, 2016
    Assignee: Elevance Renewable Sciences, Inc.
Inventors: Chander Balakrishnan, Yenamandra Viswanath, Efimia Metsi-Guckel, Mary Bjorklund, Yongyou Hu, Jason Bronkema
  • Publication number: 20140336398
Abstract: Methods are provided for refining natural oil feedstocks. The methods include reacting the feedstock with a low-molecular-weight olefin or mid-weight olefin in the presence of a metathesis catalyst under conditions sufficient to form a metathesized product including olefins and esters. In certain embodiments, the methods further include separating the olefins from the esters in the metathesized product. In certain embodiments, the methods further include transesterifying the esters in the presence of an alcohol to form a transesterified product.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 15, 2014
    Publication date: November 13, 2014
    Applicant: ELEVANCE RENEWABLE SCIENCES, INC.
Inventors: Steven A. Cohen, Melvin L. Luetkens, JR., Chander Balakrishnan, Robert Snyder, Yenamandra Viswanath, Efimia Metsi-Guckel, Robin Weitkamp
