Patent number: 10602528Abstract: An approach for selecting sets of communications channels involves determining the performance of communications channels. A set of channels is selected based on the results of performance testing and specified criteria. The participant generates data that identifies the selected set of channels and provides that data to other participants of the communications network. The participants communicate over the set of channels, such as by using a frequency hopping protocol. When a specified time expires or monitoring of the performance of the channel set identifies poor performance of the set of channels, the participant selects another set of channels for use in communications based on additional performance testing. By selecting channels based on the initial performance testing and performance monitoring, the communications network adaptively avoids channels with poor performance.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2018Date of Patent: March 24, 2020Assignee: Bandspeed LLCInventors: Hongbing Gan, Bijan Treister, Efstratios Skafidas

Publication number: 20200044612Abstract: An electronic device includes a power amplifier that sets the power of a transmit signal that is transmitted via an antenna of the device, and further includes a VSWR detector to identify the VSWR at a signal path between the antenna and the power amplifier. As a person (e.g., a user) moves in close proximity to the antenna, the amount of reflected energy along the signal path increases, thereby increasing the VSWR. A power controller of the electronic device sets a gain of the power amplifier based on the VSWR to ensure that the SAR exposure to the person is maintained below a specified threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2018Publication date: February 6, 2020Inventors: Benny Joseph BOLOGNA, Todd W. Publication number: 20190150836Abstract: A method for using saliva to measure at least one substance or physiological parameter of a human or animal subject may involve inserting a first end of a sensor into a handheld saliva testing device. The method may also involve receiving saliva from the subject on a second end of the sensor, moving the saliva from the second end of the sensor to the first end, and processing the saliva with the handheld saliva testing device to provide initial saliva data related to the at least one substance or physiological parameter of the subject. In some embodiments, the sensor remains inserted in the handheld device while the subject deposits saliva on the opposite, free end of the sensor.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 21, 2018Publication date: May 23, 2019Inventors: Efstratios SKAFIDAS, Chathurika Darshani ABEYRATHNE, Gursharan CHANA, Duc Hau HUYNH, Trevor John KILPATRICK, Alan D.
