Patent number: 5533552Abstract: In a bottle filling machine having a toroidal liquid tank and several filling units arranged circularly about the tank, each filling unit has a support which can be moved radially by means of an actuator. Each movable support supports a liquid flow inverter cup which can be connected to the filling unit for closing the opening of the gas return tube of the unit when cleansing solution is circulated through gas and liquid passageways of the machine. The converter cup, during a normal filling operation, is parked behind a circular barrier wall which is mounted radially inwardly from the filling units for surrounding the inverter cups and their movable support members during normal bottle filling operations. There is a doorway hole in the barrier wall aligned with each movable inverter cup support and a door is mounted to the movable support so that it keeps the doorway closed during regular bottle filling operations.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1994Date of Patent: July 9, 1996Assignee: Krones AGInventor: Egon Ahlers

Patent number: 5295517Abstract: A process and device for filling a vessel with a liquid. The vessel is placed on a lifting plate and guided up to a filler spout a predetermined distance measured from its base, the vessel's opening being lifted into a sealed filling position below the filler spout. The vessel is filled up to a predetermined filling level by opening a valve associated with the filler spout, whereupon the supply of liquid is terminated, and a volume of liquid still present between the valve and the filling level flows into the vessel. This after-flowing liquid volume is controlled as a function of the vessel height so that in the case of a vessel having a height smaller than a mean vessel height there is an afterflow of a larger volume of liquid than in the case of a greater vessel height where the afterflow is of a smaller volume of liquid.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Krones AG Hermann Kronseder MaschinenfabrikInventor: Egon Ahlers

Patent number: 5040354Abstract: A rotary-type capping machine is provided for capping bottles with closure caps. A plurality of capping elements are provided that rotate about a vertical machine axis and can be raised and lowered in the vertical direction. To clean the capping elements, rinsing caps can be secured thereon, each of which, when secured on a capping element, closes off toward the outside a rinsing chamber in which are disposed at least those surfaces of the capping element for which cleanliness is particularly critical. To avoid a connection and loosening of hoses or conduits during cleaning, each capping element is provided above a rinsing cap connection area with fixed connections for the supply and withdrawal of a cleaning or rinsing agent. If the capping machine has a cap transfer mechanism with a rotating transfer element, to clean the same a tray-like element for a cleaning agent is provided in which the transfer element can be immersed by lowering the cap transfer mechasnism and/or by raising the tray-like element.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1990Date of Patent: August 20, 1991Assignee: Seitz Enzinger NollInventors: Egon Ahlers, Herbert Bernhard, Clusserath, Axel Theine

Patent number: 4982768Abstract: A method and filling element for dispensing a liquid into a bottle or some other container. A filling element is provided with a liquid flow valve and a delivery opening via which, in a filling phase, with the liquid flow valve open, the liquid that is to be dispensed flows into a container that is to be filled through an opening thereof. In a rinsing phase that precedes the filling phase, the interior of the bottle is supplied with a rinsing gas via a tubular member that extends through the container opening into the interior thereof. The rinsing gas is discharged into the container from a gas conduit opening provided at the bottom of the tubular member. This discharge opening is in the form of an annular opening that extends concentrically about the filling element axis. By introducing the rinsing gas into the interior of the container via this annular opening, the quantity of residual air that remains after rinsing is considerably reduced despite a short rinsing time.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1989Date of Patent: January 8, 1991Assignee: Seitz Enzinger Noll Maschinenbau AktiengesellschaftInventor: Egon Ahlers
