    Abstract: An instrument for induction of labor comprising a tubular member or catheter being closed at its forward or leading end and open at its rearward or trailing end; there being an inflatable bag or balloon in enveloping relationship to the forward end portion of the catheter and being engaged in leak-proof manner thereto. At least one orifice is provided adjacent the forward end of the catheter within the bag for effecting communication between the said bag and the catheter for the introduction of liquid into the bag for inflating same to a predetermined extent dictated by the presentation of the fetus. A method for inducing labor comprising inserting into the uterus a liquid inflatable bag mounted upon the forward end portion of a tubular member with the bag being presented between the uterine wall and the amniotic membrane.
