  • Patent number: 10051050
Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing peer-to-peer communication in a wireless network is described. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may receive configuration information comprising periodic resources comprising time and subcarrier resources from a base station of a wireless network. The time and subcarrier resources may be used in discovery of other WTRUs. The WTRU is further configured to transmit an identification in the allocated resources and to transmit a synchronization signal to a peer WTRU for timing synchronization of the peer WTRU.

  • Publication number: 20180205500
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method and apparatus for implementing space frequency block coding (SFBC) in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication system. The present invention is applicable to both a closed loop mode and an open loop mode. In the closed loop mode, power loading and eigen-beamforming are performed based on channel state information (CSI). A channel coded data stream is multiplexed into two or more data streams. Power loading is performed based on the CSI on each of the multiplexed data streams. SFBC encoding is performed on the data streams for each of the paired subcarriers. Then, eigen-beamforming is performed based on the CSI to distribute eigenbeams to multiple transmit antennas. The power loading may be performed on two or more SFBC encoding blocks or on each eigenmodes. Additionally, the power loading may be performed across subcarriers or subcarrier groups for weak eigenmodes.

  • Patent number: 10004080
Abstract: A method for reporting channel quality from a user equipment (UE) to a base station is described. The UE derives a channel quality for each of a plurality of downlink resources. The UE transmits channel quality reports in a pattern of time intervals by rotating through the plurality of downlink resources in different time intervals of the pattern, wherein a channel quality report is not transmitted by the UE in each time interval of a frame.

  • Patent number: 9991992
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing spatial processing with unequal modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) or stream-dependent MCSs are disclosed. Input data may be parsed into a plurality of data streams, and spatial processing is performed on the data streams to generate a plurality of spatial streams. An MCS for each data stream is selected independently. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. At least one of the techniques of space time block coding (STBC), space frequency block coding (SFBC), quasi-orthogonal Alamouti coding, time reversed space time block coding, linear spatial processing and cyclic delay diversity (CDD) may be performed on the data/spatial streams. An antennal mapping matrix may then be applied to the spatial streams. The spatial streams are transmitted via multiple transmit antennas. The MCS for each data stream may be determined based on a signal-to-noise ratio of each spatial stream associated with the data stream.

  • Patent number: 9913108
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing group communications are disclosed. A base station may provide multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) data for transmission to groups of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs). The WTRUs may be divided into groups based on a respective MBMS service to be received by each respective group. The base station may assign a respective logical channel for the respective MBMS service of each respective group. The base station may then transmit, to one of the groups, a group assignment message indicating physical resources for a transmission of MBMS data for the group's MBMS service. Also, the base station may further transmit MBMS data of the group's MBMS service using the respective logical channel of the group using the indicated physical resources. The physical resources may include subcarriers. Each respective group may have a respective assigned group identification. The base station may be an eNode-B.

  • Patent number: 9913275
Abstract: A wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs) receives a downlink transmission from a Node-B and decodes the downlink transmission. If the decoding is not successful, the WTRU sends a pre-defined burst signifying a negative acknowledgement (NACK) to the Node-B via a contention-based shared feedback channel. The pre-defined burst may be sent only once without requiring an acknowledgement. The Node-B calibrates a downlink transmit power so that the downlink transmission is transmitted to the WTRUs with a high likelihood. The Node-B may send a downlink transmission including multiple data streams processed using different modulation and coding schemes so that a WTRU having a high signal quality decodes all data streams while a WTRU having a low signal quality decodes less than all data streams. The Node-B sends a channel quality indicator (CQI) threshold so that each WTRU determines a data stream to report feedback based on the CQI threshold and a measured CQI.

  • Publication number: 20170230999
Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink transmission over a non-contentious shared feedback channel are disclosed, wherein the parameters of the uplink transmission are determined by the parameters of a downlink transmission. A new uplink channel, called a physical shared uplink feedback channel (PSUFCH) is used for uplink transmission such as feedback information in response to a downlink transmission on a fast shared data channel. The content of the feedback information may be general, e.g. an ACK/NACK or a channel quality indicator (CQI). The PSUFCH is transmitted using power ramping that terminates upon reception of a downlink ACK (DLACK) from a Node-B. No ambiguity resolution is required due to the non-contentious and deterministic mapping of the uplink channel resources.

  • Publication number: 20170223726
Abstract: A method and apparatus for control of uplink feedback information in contention based wireless communications is disclosed. Uplink feedback information such as a channel quality information and hybrid automatic retransmission request (HARQ) acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement (ACK/NACK) information may be transmitted to the universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) based on explicit and implicit triggers. Providing more frequent and robust information relating to the channel conditions and HARQ status allows the UTRAN to more efficiently utilize the radio resources for downlink data transmissions.
