  • Patent number: 6422643
Abstract: A connection structure is provided for attaching a component (e.g., a front grill or other vehicle component) to a vehicle. The connection structure includes first and second side-by-side prongs or projections which are inserted at least partially into an aperture in a support structure of the vehicle. As the prongs are inserted into the aperture, the prongs are biased in opposite directions until a point in time when the first prong gets far enough into the aperture so that it can latch onto a wall of the aperture. When the first prong latches onto the wall of the aperture in order to prevent the prong (and thus the component) from being pulled out of the aperture, the other or second prong is lodged in the aperture in order to prevent the first prong from being unlatched.
