  • Patent number: 9820309
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method in a relay node (10) for acquiring information about a type of a radio network connection between a donor radio base station (12) and a radio base station (14). The relay node (10) and the donor radio base station (12) are comprised in a radio communications network and the donor radio base station (12) is serving the relay node (10). The relay node (10) receives a message from the donor radio base station (12), which message is indicating a type of radio network application protocol, which type is related to a type of the radio network connection between the donor radio base station (12) and the radio base station (14). The relay node (10) determines the type of the radio network connection based on the type of radio network application protocol indicated in the message.

  • Patent number: 9560662
Abstract: A method and a network node (110, 120, 140) for enabling configuration of at least two patterns for a cell (C0) are provided. The patterns are transmission patterns or measurement patterns. The network node (110, 120, 140) obtains (402) the at least two patterns. Each of the at least two patterns is associated with information about a respective restricted area (A1, A2) such that each pattern is used when a user equipment (130) served by the cell (C0) is located in the respective restricted area. Each respective restricted area (A1, A2) is smaller than an entire area of the cell (C0). Moreover, a method and a user equipment (130) for configuring measurements are provided. The user equipment (130) is served by a cell (C0, C1, C2) of a radio base station (110, 120, 140). The user equipment (130) receives at feast two measurement patterns from the radio base station. Each measurement pattern is associated with a respective restricted area.

  • Patent number: 9213080
Abstract: A base station determines a muting configuration for reference signal (RS) transmission as a pattern defined by the combination of a muting sequence and a reference point. Muting occasions for a given wireless communication network cell may be differentiated from another cell by use of a different muting sequence, a different reference point, or both. Wireless communication apparatuses such as User Equipments (UEs) determine when the reference signals are muted in the cell based on the periodic muting sequence and the reference point received in assistance data transmitted by the base station. The network may alternatively utilize a common muting sequence with different reference points, a common reference point with different muting sequences, or different sequences and different reference points across multiple cells.

  • Patent number: 9215615
Abstract: A method is disclosed that can be performed in at least one network node which provides wireless communications service for user equipment nodes (UEs). The method includes detecting uplink interference at an interfered network node. Responsive to the uplink interference, an uplink transmission having a defined configuration is initiated from a UE, which is served by a serving network node. The uplink signal is detected using the defined configuration at the interfered network node. The UE is identified responsive to the detected uplink signal as being a contributor to the uplink interference. An uplink transmission by the UE and/or by another UE served by the serving network node is controlled to reduce uplink interference.

  • Patent number: 8014772
Abstract: Procedures are provided for the establishment of MBMS services in different cells of a cellular telecommunications network, in particular, for maintaining the transmission of MBMS data to a particular user equipment, even when it moves from one cell to another when the service is provided in different ways in different cells. In particular, when a user equipment receives a multimedia data service in a first cell via a certain type of connection (i.e., a point-to-point connection/while requiring an RRC Connection, a point-to-multipoint connection without/while requiring an RRC Connection), and moves to a second cell where the type of connection used to provide the service is different, specific actions are undertaken (e.g., request for an RRC Connection, release of an RRC Connection, etc), depending on the type of connection change carried out. Embodiments for the establishment of the most adequate connection (p-t-p, p-t-m) in a cell are disclosed as well (e.g., by sending a message from a SRNC to a CRNC).

  • Publication number: 20110044284
Abstract: There is provided support mechanisms for at least one adding and removing a cell from operation in a heterogeneous radio network having a first type of basic cell for providing basic radio coverage and a second type of cell associated to a basic cell as a capacity enhancing cell. A capacity enhancing cell is selectively switched on and off (S1); when the capacity enhancing cell is shut down the cell does not exist over the air while cell configuration information is kept and when the capacity enhancing cell is switched on the cell becomes available again over the air interface. An indication of shut-down and a wake-up call message for switch-on of the capacity enhancing cell are communicated (S2) between a base station serving the capacity enhancing cell and a base station serving the basic cell. In this way energy savings can be supported without disrupting service availability.

  • Publication number: 20100273451
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention presented herein, a mobile terminal requests positioning assistance data from its supporting wireless communication network, in response to receiving a positioning request from a positioning node. Further, in response to receiving the positioning assistance data from the network, the mobile terminal sends the positioning assistance data to the positioning node. In this manner, the positioning node advantageously gains access to network-generated positioning assistance data without need for requesting it from the network. In at least one embodiment, the mobile terminal receives the positioning request from the positioning node over a User Plane (UP) connection. However, the mobile terminal sends the positioning assistance data request to the base station over a Control Plane (CP) connection, and receives the requested positioning assistance data via the CP. The terminal transfers that data to the UP and sends it to the positioning node.

  • Patent number: 7194274
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangements in a mobile telecommunication network for providing a first radio network controlling unit with positioning information for a mobile terminal. The mobile terminal is located within a cell and served by a radio base station covering said cell. The cell is identifiable by means of a cell Geographical Area Information, GAI, and the resources of the radio base station to the mobile terminal is controlled by a second Radio network controlling unit. The method in accordance with the present invention comprises the steps of determining a cell portion of the cell wherein the mobile terminal is located, associating the cell portion with a Cell Portion GAI and transmitting the Cell Portion GAI from the second radio network controlling unit that controls the resources of said radio base station to the first radio network controlling unit.

  • Publication number: 20050233760
Abstract: The present invention relates to broadcast and/or multicast services in mobile communication networks. Control (105) and user (107?, 107?) planes for services directed to a user (50A-C) in a multicast group (60) are allowed to be separated from each other. At least two user equipments (50A-C) (belonging to the same multicast group) receives service data over a common user plane (107?) over an Iu interface (17) In cases where user equipment (50C) is controlled by a SRNC (22B) different from the CRNC (22A), a radio network subsystem application protocol is extended by procedures communicating service information from the SRNC (22B) to the CRNC (22A). The control plane (105) of such a user equipment (50C) can thus have a separate path compared with a common user plane (107?). Preferably, the user plane (107?) is arranged directly over the Iu interface (17) between a serving support node (12) and the CRNC (22A), while control planes (105) may have a path over the Iur interface (14).
