  • Patent number: 6405590
Abstract: The present invention discloses a capacitive filling-level sensor, which is suitable in particular for filling-level determination in oil separator tanks. The capacitive sensor includes a measuring probe with at least one sensor electrode. According to the invention, the measuring probe is at least partially sheathed with at least one outer layer of a fluorinated plastic and at least one inner layer of a mica-filled plastic. Important exemplary embodiments concern an outer layer of perfluoroethylene-perfluoropropylene copolymer (FEP), an inner layer of mica-coated glass fiber tape impregnated with epoxy resin and possibly silanized and an incompressible, thermally adapted filling of the measuring-probe pipe with silicone oil and glass spheres or glass polyhedrons and/or an inner rod of AlMgSi-filled epoxy resin. The sheathing is electrically insulating, chemically inert, hydrophobic, oleophobic, waterproof, mechanically robust and easy to produce.

  • Patent number: 6364677
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for terminating cables (1), particularly for underwater termination of high voltage power cable and for conducting high voltage conductors in an electrical underwater apparatus, with the purpose of providing a liquid and water tight termination, at the same time as it provides pressure relief for vital components.

  • Patent number: 5828026
Abstract: The stock contains an insulating-material matrix and a filler embedded in the matrix and is distinguished by a cellular structure. The predominant portion of the cells is filled with a material having arc-extinguishing properties or contains a material which, on exposure to an arc, forms arc-extinguishing gas. For the purpose of improving the making and breaking capacity, such a stock can advantageously be employed in a gas-blast circuit breaker in which arc-extinguishing gas is blown onto the switching arc. This involves the stock preferably being positioned at such points guiding the arc-extinguishing gas, at which the stock is exposed to the radiation of the arc and the thermal action of arc gases.

  • Patent number: 5684664
Abstract: An electrical insulator coated with electrically insulating material is disclosed. An electrically insulating material is applied on a primer coat, in which the uniformity of the applied primer coat can be checked in a comparatively simple manner. A fluorescent material is dissolved in the primer solution before being applied to the component. Once dry, the primer coat is exposed to ultraviolet light, which causes the fluorescent material to fluoresce. Points on the surface of the component where the primer defectively coats the components are optically detected from the absence of fluorescent material. Primer is then reapplied to these points.

  • Patent number: 4818319
Abstract: Process for reducing the water vapour diffusion in a plastics composite insulator consisting of several layers by incorporation of at least one mica-containing layer as diffusion barrier in the form of a surface or intermediate layer on at least one plastics body, constituting the composite insulator.

  • Patent number: 4559167
Abstract: A varistor of metal oxides, predominantly zinc oxide (ZnO), is provided on its lateral surface between two contact faces, with a coating consisting at least partially of an organic polymer. In order to prevent rapid degradation in oxygen-free surroundings, the coating contains at least one oxygen barrier layer or is formed entirely as such a layer, which contains filler particles in an organic matrix material. The filler is here taken from the group comprising the following substances or groups of substances: synthetic mica, natural mica, vermiculite, micaceous iron ore, glass and other non-metallic inorganic substances present in the form of platelets or flakes; metal oxides, active part material in a pulverulent form and other oxygen-releasing inorganic substances. The organic matrix material is selected from the group comprising epoxide resins, alkyd resins, polyurethanes, silicone resins, unsaturated polyester resins and acrylates.

  • Patent number: 4350620
Abstract: Radioactive particles are removed from waste or process water and encapsulated by a filtration process wherein the water is filtered through a filter medium composed of a thermoplastic organic polymer. The filter cake so obtained is dried and converted to a solid encapsulating medium by the application of heat and/or pressure. The filter medium comprises, at least partially, a thermoplastic polymer which is wettable by water but non-swelling in water and has a melting point of 100.degree. to 300.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4311595
Abstract: In a flotation method for purification of industrial or municipal waste water, in which the waste water comes in contact with electrodes having an electrical potential capable of electrolytically decomposing a portion of the waste water, thereby creating an ascending stream of gas bubbles, the waste water is mixed before or during the electrolytic decomposition with wettable particles of polymer material which are practically insoluble in water and have an absolute density of 1.3 g/cm.sup.3 at the most. Polymeric materials, especially polyalkane fibrids, are suitable for use as particles. This process makes it possible to purify oil-containing waste water by electroflotation without forming an oil film on the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4274971
Abstract: In a filtration process for filtering or clarifying aqueous suspensions of finely divided solid materials, a filter aid comprising polyolefin fibrids, e.g., polyethylene or polypropylene fibrids, is added to the suspension to be filtered. The filter aid comprising polyolefin fibrids which have been rendered hydrophilic may also be used to precoat a filter medium.

  • Patent number: 4222635
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a liquid crystal display (LCD) whereby the two planar cell wall elements of the LCD are separated by an adhesion web made of a preparation which is polymerized into a solid, transparent adhesive bonding by the application of actinic radiation. The two planar cell wall elements, one of which is provided with the web preparation are mounted in a device which guides the cells toward one another. Upon reaching a predetermined measured separation distance, the cells are exposed to a source of actinic radiation, thereby polymerizing the web preparation into a suitable adhesion bonding between the two planar display elements.
