Abstract: A computer implemented method for assisting email users recognizes deviations in characteristics of emails sent from a particular source identifier or “source ID” to a user. After one or more emails having a pattern of characteristics are received, an action on subsequent emails is performed, such as warning users when the subsequent emails received from the source ID match or don't match the pattern. Characteristics from a particular source ID are determined based on whether the addressee reads the email from the source ID. Various levels of warning based on the characteristics identified and the deviation of any email from the characteristics of previous emails.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for obtaining data is provided. In the method, to obtain data pertaining to another party, a request for an authentication key is made. Upon receiving the requested authentication key in an email, the method and system automatically send the authentication key as part of a HTTP, HTTPS or SMTP request for data. Then, in response to the request for data containing the authentication key, the requested data is received.

Abstract: An email server and systems and methods for providing requested data are provided. The email server is configured to automatically determine capabilities or version information of connecting client software on per account basis. The e-mail server is also configured to store the determined capabilities or version information, and to transmit the determined capabilities or version information.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for assisting email users. The method determines the relevance of email addresses to users and utilizes the relevance information to assist users in addressing emails. The method may include gathering email addresses from one or more sources including inbound user emails associated with an email user, and determining a relevance of the email address to the user based on a heuristic. Once relevance is determined, the method includes applying relevant email addresses to a user's store of relevant addresses.

Abstract: Email opt-out enforcement is described. Received email messages are processed based on trust levels associated with senders of the email messages, such that email from more trusted senders is not scrutinized as much as email from less trusted senders. When a user requests to opt-out or unsubscribe from a sender's mailings, a record of the user's opt-out request is maintained. If the sender continues to send email to the user subsequent to the opt-out request, the trust level associated with the sender is adjusted to reflect a lesser degree of trust in the sender.

Abstract: The subject invention provides for an advanced and robust system and method that facilitates detecting spam. The system and method include components as well as other operations which enhance or promote finding characteristics that are difficult or the spammer to avoid and finding characteristics in non-spam that are difficult for spammers to duplicate. Exemplary characteristics include examining origination features in pairs analyzing character and/or number sequences, strings, and sub-strings, detecting various entropy levels of one or more character sequences, strings and/or sub-strings as well as analyzing message and/or feature sizes.
