  • Patent number: 4372677
Abstract: A device for the precision positioning of substantially planar materials, especially for use in the lithographic arts. In particular, photographic masks are precisely located for superimposition on photosensitive films or lithographic printing plates held within the frame of a plate making machine.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 23, 1981
Date of Patent: February 8, 1983
    Assignee: American Hoechst Corporation
    Inventor: Ellwood J. Horner
  • Patent number: 4081815
Abstract: Apparatus for treating sheet material in which the sheet material is transported into at least one revolving brush rotating in a direction opposite to the direction of travel of the sheet material, particularly a lithographic plate processor in which a developer solution is applied to at least one side of the plate and the brushes remove unwanted coating from the surface of the plate, in which a guide plate having a length substantially equal to the width of the sheet material is mounted immediately in front of the brush, with respect to the direction of travel of the sheet material and adjacent the surface of the sheet material, and extends into the nip of the brush to a point just behind a plane through the axis of rotation of the brush.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 26, 1973
Date of Patent: March 28, 1978
    Assignee: American Hoechst Corporation
    Inventor: Ellwood J. Horner
  • Patent number: 4081577
Abstract: A method for automatically spraying a liquid on the surface of a moving object, particularly developer, rinse and gumming liquids on an exposed, photosensitive printing plate, in which the liquid is continuously supplied to a distribution line at a predetermined pressure, and simultaneously with the supply of liquid, the object is transported past a spray device connected to the distribution line. An impinging spray of the liquid is alternately applied to the object for a first predetermined period and the application is interrupted for a second predetermined period and the cycle is repeated a plurality of times during the passage of the object past the spray device, as by a solenoid valve mounted in the distribution line and a timer connected to the solenoid valve to open and close the same.

  • Patent number: 3995343
Abstract: Apparatus for developing a printing plate, preferably a plate sensitized and imaged on both sides, including a pre-soak chamber containing a body of developer fluid, preferably a combination developer-finisher solution, and adapted to soften the areas of the plate coating to be removed as the plate passes through the chamber; a cleaning and scrubbing unit, including, a pair of rotatable brushes adapted to rotate in a direction opposite the direction that the plate travels through the apparatus, a pair of developer supply conduits mounted adjacent the brushes and behind the brushes, with respect to the direction of travel of the plate, and adapted to spray developer fluid on the bristles of the brushes at a time immediately before the latter contact the plate, a pair of deflectors mounted in contact with the brushes and ahead of the brushes, with respect to the direction of travel of the plate, and adapted to clean solid debris from the brushes and a pair of reciprocatable scrubber pads having a velour pad and
