  • Patent number: 6223135
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for determining a variable describing the speed of a vehicle. The variable describing the speed of the vehicle is determined as a function of the speed of a selected wheel. For this purpose, on the basis of the wheel speeds at least a first and a second plausibility query are performed, the results of which are taken into consideration in the selection of the wheel. On the basis of the first plausibility query it is ascertained whether the variable describing the speed of the vehicle can be determined as a function of a wheel whose wheel speed is greater than the variable describing the speed of the vehicle. On the basis of the second plausibility query it is ascertained whether the variable describing the speed of the vehicle can be determined as a function of a wheel whose wheel speed is less than the variable describing the speed of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6149251
Abstract: A device and a process for controlling the braking force at at least one wheel of a vehicle include at least a first arrangement for determining a criterion which describes and/or influences the vehicle movement, a second arrangement for determining a variable which describes the wheel dynamics of the wheel in question, and a third arrangement with which it is determined, at least as a function of the criterion which was determined, whether a driver-independent brake intervention at a wheel is foreseeable. Furthermore, the device and the process contain a fourth arrangement with which a slight activation of the actuators assigned to the wheel, with variable duration, can be performed if the requirement of a foreseeable driver-independent brake intervention is met, this activation occurring before this driver-independent brake intervention. The duration of the slight activation of the actuators is determined at least as a function of the variables which describe the wheel dynamics of the wheel in question.

  • Patent number: 6112146
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for determining a variable describing the speed of a vehicle are provided. In this method, for at least two wheels, the speeds of those wheels are determined, and the variable describing the speed of the vehicle is determined at least as a function of the speed of a selected wheel. For this, an operating state of the vehicle is determined based on the speeds of at the least two wheels, the selected wheel being determined at least as a function of that operating state. In addition, plausibility queries for determining the selected wheel are performed for some of the determined operating states of the vehicle, as a function of the particular operating state of the vehicle that is determined.

  • Patent number: 5934769
Abstract: The system serves to control the brakes of at least two wheels of a vehicle, preferably mounted on the same axle. Means are provided for controlling the brake pressure at the so-called low wheel to prevent it from locking after it has been recognized that this wheel is showing a tendency to lock. In addition, detection means are provided for determining a variable which modifies and/or represents the driving dynamics of the vehicle. A corresponding threshold value is also derived for this variable. A comparison means is provided to compare the determined variable with the determined threshold value, and a comparison result is generated. Control means for controlling the brake system of the high wheel are provided, which, after it has been recognized that the low wheel is showing a tendency to lock, change the course of the brake pressure at the high wheel as a function of the determined comparison result.

  • Patent number: 5927824
Abstract: A vehicle hydraulic brake system having brake pressure modulation valve assemblies, between a dual-circuit master cylinder and wheel brakes of vehicle wheels. The pump device is embodied as a low-pressure pump with the brake pressure modulation valve assemblies be assigned a first and second return pump and that in the automatic braking mode the first pressure chamber is made to communicate with a first return pump and the second pressure chamber is made to communicate with the second return pump, on the inlet side in both cases. The low-pressure pump, in the automatic braking mode, generates charge pressure for the return pumps that is substantially below a maximum brake pressure, and the return pumps generate the maximum projected brake pressure and serve, in the additionally possible anti-lock mode, to return pressure fluid from the wheel brakes to the master cylinder.
