  • Patent number: 4576298
Abstract: This relates to a plastic fitment to be utilized in conjunction with a conventional metal closure having a rotational engagement with threads on a container neck finish. The fitment has a readily engageable snap-in interlock with the closure and is provided with a tamper indicating band attached to a ring thereof by rupturable bridges. When the closure and fitment are applied to a container, the tamper indicating band will ride over and lock behind a projecting rib on the closure neck finish. When the closure is to be removed, as it moves axially the bridges will rupture leaving the tamper indicating band on the container while the ring of the fitment is removed with the closure. If desired, a customer may remove the ring from the closure and reseal the container with the closure per se.

  • Patent number: 4560076
Abstract: This relates to a closure having incorporated therein tamper indicating mechanism. The closure is provided with a tamper indicating member in the form of a sleeve which is divided into upper and lower bands which are separate from one another except for rupturable bridges. In lieu of relying solely upon the axial movement of the unrestrained part of the tamper indicating member to effect rupture of the bridges, the tamper indicating member has formed thereon lugs which cooperate with lugs on the neck finish and which lugs have camming surfaces to force the lower band axially away from the upper band as the closure unit is rotated in a removal operation. Separation of the bands may also be assisted by cooperating ramp surfaces between the two bands which become operative when the upper band is rotated and the lower band is held against rotation. This abstract is not to be construed as limiting the claims of the application.

  • Patent number: 4504009
Abstract: This relates to a closure unit which may be inserted into an open end of a tubular container body, particularly one formed of paperboard or plastic material, and which will have an automatic interlock with the container body and a seal sufficient to hold the closure unit in sealed relation with respect to the container body under all normal usages without the use of adhesive. The interlock between the closure unit and the container body is in the form of a plurality of retaining lugs which are resiliently deflected when the closure unit and container body are assembled and which have a pressure engagement with the interior surface of the container body to form an interlock therewith.

  • Patent number: 4347940
Abstract: A closure particularly intended for sealing containers having products packed therein under high vacuum wherein the vacuum retains the closure in place and a very high lifting or prying force is required to unseat the closure from the container to effect the removal thereof. The closure is provided with a supporting band which is interlocked with the shall of the closure and which supporting band has integrally formed as a part thereof a lever which is engageable with a shoulder on an associated container to effect the necessary lifting or prying action. The lever and associated supporting band are preferably injection molded of plastic material and may either be mechanically interlocked with the closure shell or molded in situ relative thereto. There are also suitable tamper indicating means.
