  • Patent number: 5615293
Abstract: An improved fiber optic cable assembly is provided which has made integral therewith a strength member that may be gripped or rigorously pulled to facilitate the installation of the fiber optic cable assembly in a structure.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 30, 1996
Date of Patent: March 25, 1997
    Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
    Inventor: Emile G. Sayegh
  • Patent number: 5412749
Abstract: A fiber optic illumination cable comprises two fiber optic illumination bundles and a resilient, flexible, light-absorbent material which separates the two bundles. The first bundle has a generally round cross-section, and is covered with a resilient, flexible light-absorbent material. The second illumination bundle is disposed about and contiguous with the resilient, flexible, light-absorbent material layer which surrounds the first bundle. The second illumination bundle is cabled to form an annular ring, with a generally circular cross-section, which gives the final cable an even, full, round cross-section, with a low cross-sectional area. The two cabled illumination bundles are covered with a layer of a resilient, flexible material, which does not need to be light-absorbent, and a protective polymer jacket.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 26, 1993
Date of Patent: May 2, 1995
    Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
Inventors: Emile G. Sayegh, Wendall D. Willey
  • Patent number: 5333229
Abstract: An asymmetrically shaped signal polarization maintaining optical waveguide including an asymmetrically shaped optical fiber surrounded by glass cladding, hard polymer coating, soft porous polymer buffering layer, porous polymer laminate inner layer, polyester laminate outer layer bearing tabs oriented to an axis of asymmetry of the optical fiber, braid fiber sheath, and outer jacket, the observable tab orientation on the outside of the cable providing location means of the axis of asymmetry of the optical fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 1993
Date of Patent: July 26, 1994
    Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.

  • Patent number: 5138684
Abstract: An isolated core cable for isolating a crush-sensitive core contained therein against a harsh environment, such as a fiber optic cable, a coaxial electric cable, a hydraulic line, or a pneumatic gas line, the cores therein being supported by a helically slit hard polymer tube inside a preferably braided fiber strength member. A resilient material may be wrapped around the cores inside the slit tube to further protect the cores from elongation and bending stresses.

Date of Patent: August 11, 1992
    Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.
Inventors: Roddy M. Bullock, Emile G. Sayegh
  • Patent number: 5025115
Abstract: A flat electrical power-carrying pod for inclusion as a component in a ribbon cable comprising a multiplicity of parallel wires insulated as a unit by polytetrafluoroethylene and having on each side of the plane of wires a layer of hard cut-through resistant film not contacting the other hard polymer layer. Polyimide is the preferred hard polymer.
