  • Patent number: 5573044
Abstract: An automatic bag filling machine employs a reduced pressure or a vacuum within a bag enclosing shroud to draw powdered material at a high velocity into either valved bags or vapor barrier bags to fill the bags with a relatively compacted powder. The shroud has powered movable liner assembly for adjustably enclosing bags of various size. A filling spout and a vapor barrier spout carrier by the shroud each have an expandable boot member to seal the mouth of the bag on the spout to preclude seepage of powdered material from the bag interior during filling. A system is provided for automatic detection of powder escaping from a broken bag. The shroud is supported on a weighing scale which measures the bags and stops flow when filled to a predetermined amount. Alternatively, the weighing scale may support the bag being filled inside the shroud. A filter tank connected to the machine reduces the discharge of powdered material into the surrounding atmosphere, and allows waste material to be reclaimed.

  • Patent number: 5069415
Abstract: An adjustable mounting assembly for mounting electric motors and the like onto a support surface has a clamp in the form of a circular band with a pair of circular wire hoops for encircling the exterior of the article, e.g., a motor, to be mounted and a plurality of mounting brackets each having a leg portion for abutting the surface of the article to be mounted and a base portion disposed at a right angle to the leg portion with an aperture for mounting the article onto the support surface. Each bracket leg portion has a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings and tabs for receiving the hoops of the band at selective positions along its length. Each bracket is adjustably connected to the band for circumferential positioning at selective locations on the band to axially align the apertures of the upstanding base portions with an existing mounting arrangement of the support surface.

  • Patent number: 4940902
Abstract: An apparatus and method continuously samples and measures the changing concentration and/or density of suspended solids in a liquid medium without electrical connections at the submerged points in the liquid. A submersible sensing head is connected by an elongate probe to an non-submersible enclosure which contains at least one light source and one light detector. The sensing head has an apertured sample chamber allowing liquid to flow freely therethrough when submerged and contains at least one light emitting lens and at least one light receiving lens aligned in the flow path. The light emitting lens is connected to the light source and the light receiving lens is connected to the light detector with fiber optic bundles extending the probe. An elongate shaft extends through the probe and into the sensing head sample chamber and has a lens wiper at its lower end.

  • Patent number: 4648432
Abstract: An automatic bag filling machine employs a reduced pressure or a vacuum within a bag enclosing shroud to draw powdered material into either valved bags or vapor barrier bags in a series of increments to fill the bags with a relatively compacted powder. The shroud has movable liner assembly for adjustably enclosing bags of various size. A novel filling spout and a vapor barrier spout carrier by the shroud each have an expandable boot member to seal the mouth of the bag on the spout to preclude seepage of powdered material from the bag interior during filling. A filter tank connected to the machine reduces the discharge of powdered material into the surrounding atmosphere, and allows waste material to be reclaimed. Valves for controlling vacuum imparted to the shroud chamber, venting the bag interior, powdered material flow, and relief to atmospheric pressure of the shroud interior, are operated in proper sequence to fill the bag.

  • Patent number: 4351373
Abstract: A system of apparatus for filling bags with dry powdered material and separating foreign matter therefrom includes a vacuum chamber for receiving a bag for filling with dry powder and a novel classifier for removing particulate foreign matter from the powder. The system includes a tank which is evacuated by a small vacuum pump and is connected to the enclosure where the bags are filled with powder and also is connected to a classifier which is provided for separating particulate foreign matter from the powder being bagged. The classifier is a rotary screen separator which discharges dry powder through the screen into a hopper connected to the bag filling enclosure. The classifier is connected to be maintained under vacuum on the outlet side during operation and is arranged to be connected to vacuum on the inlet side for back flushing to remove and recover particulate matter collected therein.

  • Patent number: 4252489
Abstract: A novel bag opening apparatus comprises an enclosure or chute or slide for receiving a bag and having bag-opening stationary knives positioned therein. The bag-opening knives comprise a plurality of knives meeting at a sharp point and extending diagonally outward to engage and be supported on the side walls of the enclosure or chute or slide. The arrangement of the knives is such that the point where the knives join is operable to puncture the end of a bag pressed there against and the knives extending diagonally outward toward the walls of the enclosure or chute or slide will make diagonal cuts in the end of a bag pressed there against which extend substantially across the end of the bag and produce an enlarged opening therein. This bag opening apparatus is designed for opening bags containing particulate material and more particularly pulverulant material. The apparatus is particularly useful in combination with dust collecting means and with auger or circulating air-type conveyor systems.

  • Patent number: 4219054
Abstract: A method and system for filling and for sealing valve bags of the type having a water activated sealing means on the interior of the filling valve. A fill spout or nozzle is provided to maintain the filling valve free from contamination by the material being dispensed into the bag. The nozzle has an air conduit that supplies air to a location adjacent the water activated sealing means during the filling operation and a water spray conduit that supplies a water spray to activate the sealing means at completion of the filling operation. A suction source is connected to the material supply passage of the nozzle and is actuated momentarily while the nozzle is being removed from the filling valve and prior to the end of the filling valve entering the water activated region of the valve in order to prevent material from falling from the end of the nozzle onto the activated portion of the sealing means. A sealing nozzle separate from the filling nozzle is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4200530
Abstract: A filtration system in which the filtering member is disposed on the circumferential surface of a drum shaped member. The drum shaped member is rotated at a constant velocity about a horizontal axis. A mixture of liquid and solids to be filtered is discharged under pressure within the drum shaped member against the surface of the filtering member. The liquid which filters through the screen is received in a reservoir, the level of which is maintained below the surface of the filtering member. The solids adhere to the surface of the filtering member and rotate therewith until dislodged into a hopper for subsequent discharge. Upon discharge from the drum shaped member, the solids can be compressed or made to travel an upwardly inclined path to drain excess liquid therefrom.

  • Patent number: 3954347
Abstract: An improved drilling machine for cutting holes for knobs and latches in metal-clad doors comprises a supporting framework for the door and a hollow drill arranged to be moved upward from the underside of the door to cut the knob opening. The drill is hollow in construction and is supported on a drive shaft by a plurality of support members spaced a sufficient distance apart to effect an easy discharge of the core which is cut and drops through the center of the hollow drill bit or cutter. In addition, the drill bit or cutter, which is hollow in construction, has the individual cutting teeth cut at an angle such that the innermost part of the cut is completed through the metal cladding on the door before the cutter begins to cut the wooden portion thereof.
