  • Publication number: 20130121148
Abstract: An extension to TCP is generally provided that allows TCP to handle heterogeneous applications, especially those with delay and smoothness-sensitive contents, and wireless transmission media having noisy, fading radio channels. The TCP extension decouples reliability control from rate control, sacrificing reliability for delay control (transmission rate and retransmission decision) that may be suitable for delay and smoothness-sensitive contents. Furthermore, the TCP extension may select TCP variants and modifications to the TCP variants based on one or more of application needs, channel conditions, or local observables such as loss and delay to better adapt to different types of applications and physical layers.

  • Publication number: 20130122916
Abstract: Techniques are generally described for determining locations of a plurality of communication devices in a network. In some examples, methods for creating a location discovery infrastructure (LDI) for estimating locations of one or more of a plurality of communication nodes may comprise one or more of determining a plurality of locations in the terrain to place a corresponding plurality of beacon nodes, determining a plurality of beacon node groups for the placed beacon nodes, and determining a schedule for the placed beacon nodes to be active. Additional variants and embodiments are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20130116422
Abstract: Starch-based dextrin adhesive additives and methods of preparation are described. Adhesives containing the additive exhibit antimicrobial properties and increased water solubility. The additive contains at least one sugar unit, at least one polyphenol side chain, and at least one Frechet-type poly(aryl ether)dendron.

  • Publication number: 20130081357
Abstract: The present technology provides a bisphenol A capture system for food and beverage containers which include BPA-containing coatings. The capture system is made of one or more materials which bind any BPA eluting from the BPA-containing coating. The present capture system therefore reduces or prevents BPA from migrating from the can coating into the food or beverages stored in the can. The present technology further provides methods of manufacturing and using such coatings.

  • Publication number: 20130027798
Abstract: Coatings configured to change between a relatively higher reflectivity state and a relatively lower reflectivity state depending at least partially upon a hydration state of at least a portion of the coating are generally disclosed. Some example coatings may include a selectively reflective layer comprising superabsorbent particles. The superabsorbent particles may have a relatively higher reflectively when substantially dry and a relatively lower reflectivity when substantially hydrated. When substantially dry, the selectively reflective layer may reflect a first fraction of incident light. When substantially hydrated, the selectively reflective layer may reflect a second fraction of the incident light. The first fraction of the incident light may be greater than the second fraction of the incident light.
