  • Patent number: 10632583
Abstract: A resonant frequency dampened through-coolant machine tool for selective mounting to machining systems for precision vibration free machining and has an elongate tool body. An internal dampening chamber is defined within the machine tool body and contains a resonant frequency dampening mass that is moveable within the dampening chamber. Axial and diametrical tunable dampening devices support the dampening mass in spaced relation with internal walls of the dampening chamber. A tuning piston is moveable within the machine tool body and has a tuning flange that is disposed in contact with one of the axial tunable dampening devices. The tuning piston has a pair of oppositely angulated surfaces that are selectively engaged by angulated drive heads of adjustment screws that are supported by threaded openings of the tool body and are rotated to selectively drive the tuning piston forwardly or rearwardly for precise tuning activity.

  • Publication number: 20160311031
Abstract: A vibration dampening through coolant tool holder for machining operations, has an internal chamber within which a vibration dampening mass member is supported by resilient buffer members. The vibration dampening mass member has inner and outer tubular members that define a particulate chamber therebetween. A quantity of dense particulate such as granular tungsten carbide is located within the particulate chamber, causing the vibration dampening mass member to have sufficient mass to dampen the resonate frequency of vibration of said tool holder during machining activity. A vibration adjusting piston, actuated by an adjustment mechanism is linearly moveable with the tool holder and has dampening adjustment engagement with the mass member.

  • Publication number: 20160067787
Abstract: A vibration dampening through coolant tool holder, such as a boring bar, for machining operations, has an internal chamber within which a vibration dampening mass is supported at each axial end by resilient buffer members. A vibration adjusting piston is linearly moveable with the tool holder and has dampening adjustment engagement with the mass. A dampening adjustment mechanism causes linear movement of the piston and applies controlled force of the piston to the mass and has a micrometer type rotary adjustment member that imparts linear force to the piston. The linear piston adjustment can also have a worm gear drive mechanism for controlling linear piston movement.

  • Publication number: 20080083307
Abstract: A quick-setting and release tool post mechanism provides for locking of tool holders to a tool post body and incorporates a gib drive member having angulated thread flanks that impart downward and lateral forces to one or more gibs to enhance the tool holder locking activity. The tool post and tool holder each have an internal coolant supply and distribution system for supplying coolant fluid during machining. The tool post has one or more thread flank actuated tapered gibs that are actuated by manually energized rotary motion of an externally threaded gib drive member to develop thread flank induced forces that achieve locking of tool holders at selected positions on dove-tail mounts and to achieve back-lash free quick release of the tool holders from the mounts.

  • Patent number: 6571671
Abstract: A quick-change tool post, having a rectangular tool post body with a bore there through defining an axis of rotation. The body defines a plurality of generally rectangular tool support faces and a plurality of laterally offset external dovetail connections receiving internal dovetail connections of overlapping tool support members. A post extends through the body and defines a pivot about which the body is rotatable. An indexing mechanism having locking and unlocking conditions permits unlocking of the post during a first increment of rotational locking handle movement and rotation of the post during a second increment of rotational movement of the handle in the same rotational direction.

  • Patent number: 5992199
Abstract: A modular knurling tool is provided having a tool shank defining a first dove-tail connector and having at least one adjustment drive recess. Any selected one of a number of different knurling heads are adjustably connected to the tool shank by a second dove-tail connector, such that with the tool shank mounted in the tool support of a metal working machine, the knurling head is linearly adjustable along an axis that is oriented in normal relation with the longitudinal axis of the tool shank and in normal relation with the axis of the rotating work piece. A threaded adjustment member is positioned with a circular thrust element thereof located in rotatable relation within the adjustment drive recess so that rotation of the threaded adjustment will impart linear adjustment movement to the knurling head relative to the tool shank.

  • Patent number: 5214989
Abstract: A quick setting and release machine tool post having a body block structure forming a pair or partial dove tail tool mounts externally thereof. The body block also forms a pair of expander receptacles each receiving a dove tail expander element in movable assembly therewith. A rotary actuator located within an actuator receptacle defined by the body block forms oppositely directed intersecting eccentric cam surfaces that are disposed for driving engagement with respective dove tail expander elements depending upon the direction of rotation of the actuator element. The dove tail expander elements are selectively linearly movable to establish tight locking engagement within the dove tail receptacles of tool holders and are retractable to release the tool holders for replacement or repositioning. The design and operational characteristics of the tool post mechanism minimizes wear of component parts and promotes long service life.
