Abstract: Silver halide photographic element comprising a support having coated thereon red-, green- and blue-sensitive silver halide emulsion layers comprising, respectively, cyan, magenta and yellow dye-forming couplers, wherein at least one silver halide emulsion layer comprises a yellow dye-forming DIR coupler having a 1,2,4-triazolyl group attached to the coupling position, said 1,2,4-triazolyl group comprising a hydrolyzable alkoxy- or aryloxy-carbonyl group attached to a benzylthio substituent on the 1,2,4-triazolyl group.Preferably, the yellow dye-forming DIR coupler is represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group or --NHR.sub.5, wherein R.sub.5 represents an alkyl group or an aryl group,R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group or an aryl group, TIME represents a timing group,n is 0 or 1,R.sub.3 represents an alkyl group or a phenyl group, andR.sub.4 represents hydrogen atom or an alkyl group.

Abstract: Silver halide photographic element comprising a support and at least one silver halide emulsion layer having therein a 2-equivalent 5-pyrazolone magenta coupler represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein a represents an integer from 0 to 3,b represents an integer from 0 to 2,R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each individually hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, aryl, aryloxy, acylamino, sulfonamido, sulfamoyl, carbamoyl, arylsulfonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, alkoxysulfonyl, aryloxysulfonyl, alkylureido, arylureido, nitro, cyano, hydroxyl or carboxy group,R.sub.3 is halogen atom, alkyl or aryl group,X is a direct link or a linking group,Ball is a ballasting group which renders a group to which is attached non-diffusible in photographic coatings, andthe sum of the sigma values of R.sub.1, R.sub.3 and X-Ball is less than 1.3.

Abstract: A process for preparation of 2-equivalent 4-arylthio-5-pyrazolone magenta couplers comprises the steps of:(i) reacting a 4-equivalent 5-pyrazolone magenta coupler and a diaryldisulfide compound in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo-[5,4,0]-undecen-7-ene and an organic solvent to obtain a reaction product between 4-arylthio-5-pyrazolone magenta coupler and 1,8-diazabicyclo-[5,4,0]-undecen-7-ene, and(ii) converting the reaction product with an inorganic acid into the 4-arylthio-5-pyrazolone magenta coupler.The reaction product between the 4-arylthio-5-pyrazolone magenta coupler and the 1,8-diazabicyclo-[5,4,0]-undecen-7-ene is easily formed in high yield and purity. This reaction product, which is insoluble in the reaction solvent, can be easily isolated from the reaction mixture and converted by acidification into the 2-equivalent 4-arylthio-5-pyrazolone magenta coupler in high yield and purity.

Abstract: Direct positive photographic elements are disclosed employing internal latent image silver halide emulsions associated with developer autoxidation promoter agents constituted by 5 or 6 membered nucleus-containing heterocyclic compounds comprising an azomethine group, whose methine group is substituted with a 5-amino-1,2,4-triazolyl group, and/or copper complex compounds thereof.Preferably said direct positive photographic elements are multi-layer elements comprising internal latent image type type silver halide emulsion layers sensitized to different regions of the visible light and associated with image-dye providing compounds (photographic color couplers).
