  • Patent number: 4128149
Abstract: A piston arrangement for a shock absorber. A piston rod has a piston mounted on it, the piston being axially non-displaceable with respect to the piston rod. The piston has flow channels through which a damping medium may flow when the piston is axially displaced in the shock absorber. There are two valves for controlling the flow of medium when the piston is moved in opposite axial directions, respectively, each of which valves has a valve element that opens against a spring force, depending on the direction of axial movement of the piston and therefore on the direction of flow of the medium. This closure element of one of the valves includes a disc while the closure element of the other valve includes a sleeve which surrounds the piston rod. The sleeve has a flange which is exposed to the pressure of the medium when the valve is opened. This piston rod itself has a region of reduced diameter, part of which region is in axial alignment with the disc. The sleeve and disc form a space between themselves.

  • Patent number: 4111231
Abstract: A valve arrangement adapted for use in a shock absorber, for example of the type employed in motor vehicles. The valve includes a valve seat and at least two disk springs. A first disk spring is clamped in the region of a first radial edge and extends in the radial direction toward the valve seat. However, its second, free radial edge terminates before reaching the valve seat. A second disk spring is held in the region of its own first radial edge against the pressure of the fluid medium only at the region of the second radial edge of the first disk spring. The second disk spring extends in the radial direction toward the valve seat such that its other, second radial edge extends over the valve seat and lies in contact therewith when the valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 4096928
Abstract: A valve assembly for a shock absorber which has separate first and second channels for the opposite flow directions of the damping medium contained in the shock absorber includes at least one first valve and one second valve having a common shaft and arranged to control the first channel and the second channel, respectively. The first valve includes at least one resilient valve disc and a first spring biasing the resilient valve disc with the interposition of a valve body. The second valve includes a closing disc and a second spring urging the closing disc into a closed position. The resilient disc and the closing disc surround the common shaft. The valve assembly further has an axially displaceable valve cage being common to the first and second valves. The valve cage has a cylindrical portion surrounding the resilient valve disc for a centered guiding thereof. The cylindrical portion has an edge face which serves as an abutment for cooperating with the closing disc.

  • Patent number: 4083437
Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber is disclosed which includes a stationary cylinder, a piston arranged to move within the cylinder in directions of extension and retraction, a fluid tank and a multiple valve for controlling the flow of fluid between the cylinder and the tank.

  • Patent number: 4034860
Abstract: In a telescoping shock absorber which has a cylinder containing a damping medium and a piston slidably disposed in the cylinder, within the confines of the cylinder there are provided separate first and second channels provided with valves. The valves are so oriented that -- in response to the motion of the piston -- in the one channel there will be a medium flow only in the one direction and in the other channel there will be a medium flow only in the other, opposite direction. At least one of the channels has a first valve designed as a function of the desired damping characteristics of the shock absorber and a second valve disposed downstream of the first valve with respect to the flow direction of the damping medium in that channel. The second valve is structured merely as a check valve to open at least approximately simultaneously with the opening of the first valve and to close prior to the closing of the first valve.
