  • Patent number: 5595418
Abstract: A camper shell (12) attaches to a cargo bed (16) of a pickup truck (14) through a hinging mechanism (50). The hinging mechanism (50) resides within the shell (12) and causes the entire shell (12) to move rearward and upward as the shell (12) pivots upward. The hinging mechanism (50) includes upper arms (52), lower arms (54) and a counterbalancing spring (66, 76). The upper arms (52) are longer than the lower arms (54), and the upper arms (52) pivotally attach to the shell (12) at pivot points (58) which are spaced apart from and above the pivot points (62) where the lower arms pivotally attach to shell (12). The upper arms (52) pivotally attach to the cargo bed (16) at pivot points (56) that are spaced apart from and rearward of the pivot points (60) where the lower arms (54) pivotally attach to the cargo bed (16). The counterbalancing spring (66, 76) urges the shell to pivot upward.

  • Patent number: 5108116
Abstract: An annular sealing apparatus comprised of at least a pair of axially stacked thin diaphragm members is provided. Each of diaphragm members includes a planar array of radially extending fingers separated by gaps. The fingers have a logarithmic curvature as they extend from their innermost end to their outermost end. The fingers also have a constant thickness along their length and also have a foot integral with their innermost end. This foot is wider than the fingers and thereby provides a larger wear surface. The pair of diaphragm members are disposed so that the fingers of each block the gaps of the other.

  • Patent number: 4037856
Abstract: A coupler assembly for limiting lateral forces which may be generated during the highway operation of a trailer coupled to a towing vehicle. The present invention is part of the yoke of the trailer, and comprises a completely self-contained system for momentarily actuating the brakes on the towed vehicle, in response to undesirable lateral accelerations of the towed vehicle. The invention is characterized by a coupler member which itself is relatively rotatable, in a lateral plane, with respect to the trailer yoke, together with dampening spring assemblies, so there is a surge-brake actuation in response to lateral accelerations above a predetermined magnitude.
