  • Patent number: 11927431
Abstract: A capacitive discharge unit (CDU) for detonating an explosive in response to a control signal comprises a set of CDU components, including an exploding foil initiator (EFI), a trigger circuit, a firing capacitor, and an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) firing switch. In various embodiments the components are arranged on a board for mechanically and electrically supporting the components in an ordered arrangement along a CDU axis where the CDU having an axial length defined by the ordered arrangement of two or more of the EFI, the firing capacitor, and the IBGT firing switch, wherein the trigger circuit is offset from the CDU axis such that the trigger circuit does not contribute to the axial length.

  • Patent number: 8608747
Abstract: The invention provides a guide for controlling a surgical instrument, that includes a cutting member configured to resect a portion of anatomy and a sheath. The sheath may have a circular connecting portion with an inner diameter substantially the same as the outer diameter of the surgical instrument to receive the surgical instrument. The sheath may also include at least two distally extending arms connected to the circular connecting portion and a ring connected to the distal portion of the at least two distally extending arms. The sheath may also include a distally extending extension connected to the ring. The guide has a superiorly extending guard connected to the distal portion of the extension and a projection member positioned on a superior surface of the guard. The projection member includes a generally circular base and circular platform that has a diameter larger than the generally circular base.

  • Publication number: 20110276051
Abstract: A resection tether that includes an elongated member having a medial end and a lateral end. The lateral end is configured for attachment to a cutting device and the medial end is configured for attachment to a reference locator positioned in a bone. When attached at both ends, the resection tether controls the movement of the cutting device relative to the reference locator. Further disclosed is an apparatus that includes a tether having an elongated member that includes a medial end and a lateral end. The lateral end is configured for attachment to a bone cutting device and the medial end configured to attach a position on a bone. The apparatus includes a bone cutting device and a reference locator that has been positioned within a bone. Also disclosed are methods for using a tether to perform a bone resection and for creating an inlay bone resection.

  • Publication number: 20110270327
Abstract: An implant guide for preparing a bone surface that includes a handle with an attached finger holder and a template head coupled to the handle. The template head is shaped to approximate the outer perimeter of an implant. The implant guide also includes a central opening that has an aperture and hook for receiving a marking device. A relief is positioned adjacent to the aperture to facilitate the engagement between the implant guide and the marking device. The implant guide may include a medial cutting notch and anterior slot for facilitating the preparation of the bone surface. A surgical kit is also disclosed that includes a plurality of implant guides, each having a handle and attached template head. The kit also includes an enclosure that is configured to hold the plurality of implant guides and marking devices. Further disclosed is a surgical method for using the implant guide.
