  • Patent number: 11889002
Abstract: Techniques for authenticating industrial devices in an industrial automation environment are disclosed herein. In at least one implementation, a physical unclonable function response of an industrial device is extracted. The industrial device transmits a security certificate signed by a certificate authority that includes a device public key to a system, wherein the system validates the security certificate, encrypts an authentication challenge using the device public key, and transmits the authentication challenge to the industrial device. The industrial device generates a device private key using the physical unclonable function response and decrypts the authentication challenge using the device private key.

  • Publication number: 20240004372
Abstract: Embodiments of this present disclosure include an industrial automation system, including an operational technology (OT) industrial automation device. The OT industrial automation device may perform an operation for the industrial automation system. Further, the OT industrial automation device may receive data comprising instructions related to the operation. Embodiments also include a monitoring device to receive the data; identify the OT industrial automation device based on the data; retrieve one or more rules for providing communications to the OT industrial automation device in response to identifying the OT industrial automation device; and selectively forward the data to the OT industrial automation device based on the one or more rules.

  • Patent number: 9779902
Abstract: A modular intelligent electronic overload device that requires only a single configuration file to describe the device with all of the available options. Furthermore, the modular intelligent electronic overload device contains embedded application files that provide commonly used control algorithms into the non-volatile memory of the modular intelligent electronic overload device that can be accessed by a user to configure the device without the need for a personal computer. Finally, the modular intelligent electronic overload device configuration parameters can be stored to virtual non-volatile memory contained in an associated user interface device, allowing for easy replacement of the modular intelligent electronic overload device.

  • Patent number: 8525520
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a voltage pump to determine the status of a battery connected to the voltage pump are provided. The operation of the voltage pump is monitored during at least one monitoring period which corresponds to a period of relatively heavy consistent load. The operation of the voltage pump can be monitored by sampling a control signal that corresponds to the operation of the voltage pump.

  • Publication number: 20050036387
Abstract: A multi-segmented non-volatile flash memory structure is employed in combination with at least one associated memory structure for storing, updating, and preserving meter data. By initially storing meter data in the associated memory, meter data is buffered until either a predetermined amount of data is obtained or until power to the meter is disabled, at which point the stored meter data is copied into selected blocks of flash memory. The various locations for transferring data are respectively determined by flash pointers indicating which segments or blocks of flash memory to utilize. In some embodiments, the size of the associated memory structure corresponds to the size of each segment of flash memory to maximize data transfer when the associated memory structure is full and also to reduce the number of times the flash memory is written to, thus increasing the potential active lifespan of the flash memory.

  • Patent number: 6798353
Abstract: A metering data preservation and storage methodology, including steps for protecting data during periods in which power is lost to the meter, is provided. In particular, a methodology for using non-volatile flash memory structures is used in association with various volatile memory structures for the storage and preservation of metering data acquired from a solid-state utility meter. The methodology includes the use of the volatile memory structures for the temporary storage and alteration of the measured and calculated metering data so as to avoid an effective reduction in the lifespan of the non-volatile memory structure which can only be written, erased and rewritten to a finite number of times. Further, such usage reduces costs associated with the maintenance and incorporation of such memory types in the meter. The methodology further includes the use of the non-volatile flash memory as a permanent storage medium for the acquired metering data during power loss to the meter.
