Patent number: 6332285Abstract: A plastic tab for indexing or marking a folder or an edge portion of an article such as an organizer or storage system. The lower portion of the tab has two downwardly extending walls, between which an edge of the folder or other article may be placed. The downwardly extending walls are configured and adapted to create an interference fit when the folder or other article is inserted between the walls of the tab. The interference fit enables the tab to remain securely in the desired position along the edge portion. The tab is made of a flexible polymeric material so that it may be mounted, re-positioned or removed easily. Removal of the tab from a wall edge causes the walls to flex apart and thereby eliminate or minimize the interference fit between the tab lower walls and the article on which the tab is mounted. Removal of the tab is therefore a smooth and simple operation that minimizes breakage of the tab or damage to the folder, organizer or storage medium.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Esselte CorporationInventors: Eric R. Patent number: 5720427Abstract: An expandable folder is provided which includes a front panel member, a rear panel member, and an expandable gusset which connects the panel members and forms the bottom and sides of the folder. Reinforcing means are provided upon critical or highly stressed locations to enhance the durability and useful life of the folder. Various types of reinforcement are provided about and, preferably, over the top of the gusset. The end portions of the gussets along the sides and, where applicable, the bottom, preferably have a width which is at least twice the width of the gusset folds. The outer surfaces of the inner front and rear panel members are also reinforced to strengthen the folder at least in the areas where the gusset is attached, and, for best results, on the entire outer surfaces of the panels.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 1996Date of Patent: February 24, 1998Assignee: The Smead Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Theodore V. Patent number: 5255798Abstract: A hanging folder suspension system for use with different sizes of file cabinets and different sizes of hanging folders and which is suitable for compact storage. The system includes a frame which is made of a pair of frame elements which have a column member and at least one horizontal bracket member and is integrally made of reinforced plastic. The frame elements can be locked together in a laterally adjustable manner to accommodate different size folders. A pair of multi-component rails which are adjustable to the length of the file cabinet are provided and engage rail positioning channels in the frame elements to secure the rails into the frame and form an upright rigid structure in a working position. The rails include at least two rail elements which are joined by a connecting bracket. When disassembled, the frame and rail elements fit into a compact storage box suitable for handling by standard processing facilities.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1992Date of Patent: October 26, 1993Assignee: Esselte Pendaflex CorporationInventors: Eric R. Patent number: 5161731Abstract: An expandable folder is provided which includes a front panel member, a rear panel member, and a gusset member which connects peripheral portions of the bottoms of the front and rear panel members and at least a portion of the sides of the panel members to form the expandable folder. The gusset member includes a sheet having a plurality of accordion-like folds, with terminal folds of the sheet being wider than the other folds, and the terminal folds are connected to the front and rear panel members to enhance the connection therebetween. The expandable folder further comprises interior reinforcing strips positioned along at least part of the connection between the gusset member and panel members peripheral portion for preventing separation of the front and rear panel members from the gusset member when the folder is used. Reinforcing strips may also be provided along the top or corners of the gusset member or on outer peripheral portions of the panel members.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1991Date of Patent: November 10, 1992Assignee: Esselte Pendaflex CorporationInventors: Jonathan B. Patent number: 4987690Abstract: A convertible copy holder has tracks on its rear surface that allow it to be attached to a swing arm on a desk top brace as desired. Further, the holder is made hollow to provide a storage compartment. A rib is located along one edge of the copy holder to receive a line guide, which is structured so that it may be pivoted from the copy surface. Also, there is a channel along the top of the copy holder which receives, and slidably retains, a large paper clip.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1987Date of Patent: January 29, 1991Assignee: Esselte Pendaflex CorporationInventors: Eric R. Patent number: 4114709Abstract: An electronic scale is provided having a frame to which a load cell is secured. The scale further includes a weight receiving means, a first transmission linkage affixed to the cell and a second weight transmission linkage affixed to the weight receiving means. A preloaded coil spring extends between the linkages. The coil spring is preloaded by a force slightly less than the maximum force to which the load cell can safely be subjected so that when subjected to a force, no change in the overall length of the spring occurs until the preloaded force is exceeded. A stop member is affixed to one of the linkages to engage portions of the frame which extend in the path of movement of that linkage when the spring extends.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1977Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Detecto Scales, Inc.Inventors: Maxwell E.
