    Abstract: This invention provides a method for inhibiting thrombosis in a patient whose blood is subjected to extracorporeal blood circulation which comprises contacting the extracorporeal circulating blood with a Factor IXa compound in an amount effective to inhibit thrombosis in the blood of a patient and under conditions such that the Factor IXa compound circulates in the patient. The Factor IXa compound may include an active site-blocked Factor IXa compound or Glu-Gly-Arg chloromethyl ketone-inactivated human factor IXa compound. This invention also provides that the effective amount may be from about 0.1 &mgr;g/ml plasma to about 250 &mgr;g/ml plasma or from about 0.5 &mgr;g/ml plasma to about 25 &mgr;g/ml plasma. The patient may be subjected to extracorporeal blood circulation during transplant surgery or cardiopulmonary bypass surgery.

    Abstract: A method of adding memory capacity to a computer system. The computer system comprises a redundant memory system including a plurality of memory cartridges. By powering-down a memory cartridge, adding an additional memory module to the memory cartridge, and powering-up the memory cartridge for each memory cartridge in the system, the system can transition from a redundant mode of operation to a non-redundant mode of operation for each power-down, thus allowing the computer system to remain functional during the addition of the memory module. Alternatively, memory cartridges with higher memory capacity than those currently present in the computer system can be used to replace existing memory cartridges in the computer system, using the same techniques.

    Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods for a voice activated delivery of orders to the restaurant food preparers. Food orders from customers are entered in a point-of-sale (POS) register. The restaurant worker speaks an order which is received by a speech-to-text search, resulting in a conversion into speech of a POS entry. The restaurant worker receives an audible synthesized voice reciting the POS entry. As a result, the restaurant worker is not required to view a visual display. The preferred embodiments include wireless communication with the restaurant worker so that the worker may move freely while speaking voice commands and receiving the synthesized voice orders.
