  • Patent number: 9975482
Abstract: Platforms and techniques are described in which a traffic event detection system includes a camera connected to a CPU in a vehicle. The camera is mounted on an extendable support, and captures images in front of the vehicle at a height generally above that of vehicles that may be ahead of the subject vehicle. The CPU can analyze those images for sudden change in traffic pattern based on a change in red color content of the image stream, and can warn the driver with an alert if the cars in front of him or her brake suddenly, or other traffic events occur. In implementations, short-term and long-term signal averages can be used to reduce false positive signals, and increase overall accuracy of traffic detection processing. In embodiments, the system can apply a timer to determine if potential hazards continue to be detected, and generated louder alarms or other graduated alerts.

  • Publication number: 20140218530
Abstract: Platforms and techniques are described in which a traffic event detection system includes a camera connected to a central processor unit (CPU), and a video display with sound speaker also connected to the CPU. The camera is mounted outside the vehicle on an extendable and/or rotatable support, and captures images of traffic in front of the vehicle at a height generally above that of vehicles that may be ahead of the vehicle mounted with the detection system. The CPU can feed all of the images to the video display inside the vehicle visible to the driver. The CPU also analyses those images for sudden change in traffic pattern based on spectral content of the image stream, and can warn the driver with an audible sound if the cars in front of him or her break suddenly, or other traffic events occur.

  • Patent number: 6101915
Abstract: A case trimming apparatus is provided having a hollow, longitudinally extending housing which is open at both ends, receiving and securing a cutting tool at one end and enclosing the cutting edge of that tool while rotatably receiving the open end of a case at its other end and retaining the case in alignment with the cutting edge. The end of the housing which receives the open end of the case includes a ledge to engage the shoulder of the case rather than engage the case by its diameter. The ledge can be removably mounted in the housing. The housing includes a chamber for retaining shavings and may include an opening from that chamber to remove shavings during trimming. Manual actuation is accomplished by rotation of the case relative to the housing while applying pressure to the case toward the cutting edge. An adapter is provided for connecting the housing to a standard power tool, such as a conventional electric hand drill, in order to provide an alternative rotary power source.
