  • Patent number: 6638289
Abstract: An elongated cutting accessory for performing endoscopic surgery. The accessory includes an inner tube to which a cutting member is attached and an outer tube that encases the inner tube. The outer tube may have first and second proximal and distal sections that are arranged end to end. The inner and outer diameters of the proximal section of the outer tube are greater than the corresponding diameters of the adjacent distal end section. An annular gap separates the outer surfaces of the inner tube with the inner surfaces of the outer tube. Irrigation fluid can be flowed through this gap. In some versions of the invention, two spaced apart hearing sleeves extend between the inner and outer tube. The distal of the two sleeves is formed with a channel through which the irrigation fluid can flow to a distal end opening in the outer tube.

  • Patent number: 6465630
Abstract: The invention includes modified dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (DFR) nucleic acids encoding the modified DFR that has altered amino acid sequences at the substrate specificity determining region. The property of the modified DFR is characterized by its ability to reduce dihydrokaempferol (DHK) preferentially over dihydroquercetin (DHQ), and dihydromyricetin (DHM). The invention also includes plants having at least one cell expressing the modified DFR. Such plants are characterized by the increased content of pelargonidin-based pigments. The invention also includes vectors comprising at least a portion of the modified DFR nucleic acids. The invention also includes methods using such vectors for producing plants having the increased content of pelargonidin-based pigments.

  • Patent number: 4976474
Abstract: A tensionless apparatus for a seat belt and/or shoulder harness retractor assembly is provided, which requires activation of a manual overt actuator and subsequent manual belt protraction to engage the tensionless mode from a release state. The tensionless device has a comfort or "memory" function allowing a limited motion of the user below a predetermined distance and subsequent return to the tensionless position. But belt protraction beyond the predetermined distance again shifts the tension device into the release state with the belt being biased by the retractor rewinding means.

  • Patent number: 4919450
Abstract: A seat belt retractor system for restraining a passenger in a vehicle is provided with a tension-relieving means engageable by a manual overt actuator, which system includes the following: initiation of the tensionless mode requires conscious actuation by the passenger; incorporation of an activated position, which allows retraction of any belt slack prior to engagement of the tensionless mode; subsequent slight belt protraction beyond the activated position engages the tensionless mode; a "memory" allowing belt protraction, less than a predetermined length, from the tensionless mode and return thereto; a means whereby belt protraction greater than the predetermined distance automatically returns the retractor and belt to the tensioned mode; and, an automatically operable actuator, which may be activated by the opening of the vehicle door for automatic return of the retractor to the belt-tensioned mode.
