  • Patent number: 5186105
Abstract: A device for monitoring sheet movement near the lay marks of sheet-fed offset printing presses. To ensure that a sheet has sufficient time to settle on the lay marks, the invention automatically selects between two instants at which sheet position is detected based on the state of the press (printing on or printing off). Since, depending on the state of the press, different procedures are performed before printing, selection of different instants of sensing provide a sheet the maximum amount of time possible for settling before detection.

  • Patent number: 5125334
Abstract: In order to improve mechanical positive synchronization in a sheet-fed printing machine between gripper carriages guided in wave-like fashion through printing units on endless chains and the associated impression cylinder, the impression cylinders (1) have twice the diameter of the plate and blanket cylinders (2, 3). Sprocket wheels (34), also of twice the diameter of the blanket cylinders, are fixed on the ends of the double-size impression cylinders (1) and on them there are disposed two diametrically opposite gripper carriage locating and fixing devices (24-32) which are adjustable both radially and tangentially and which can also be used to bring the different printing plates into register with one another on the printed sheet (38).

  • Patent number: 4828246
Abstract: The invention relates to a back-edge stop in the form of a cross-member for sheet stackers of sheet-fed presses having a vertically positionable intermediate stacker which forms a relatively large stack, the cross-member being pivotally connected to the sheet brake by way of a link parallelogram support. A sheet brake has disposed on it fixed sheet stops and at least one further fixed sheet stop having a recess in which a brush is pivotally mounted, the bristles of the brush being inclined forwardly and downwardly and extending into the major surface of the stack a distance substantially equivalent to the difference in sheet size. As the intermediate stacker rises and falls, the brush is pivoted, by way of an inclined cam surface on the cross-member, this surface being connected non-positively to engage an actuating edge of the brush to make a controlled pivoting movement around a horizontal axis extending transversely to the direction of sheet movement.

  • Patent number: 4813661
Abstract: An aligning device for sheet deliveries of printing presses which includes fixed sheet stops for the front edge of the delivery stack, fixed sheet stops for the back edge of the delivery stack, and movable brush sheet stops for the back edge of the delivery stack having a sheet brake disposed thereon oriented transverse to the direction of sheet movement. The brush sheet stops comprising one or more recessed brushes having firm bristles which are directed at a forwardly and downwardly inclined angle.

  • Patent number: 4328961
Abstract: A sheet feeder for feeding of sheets from a pile to the inlet gripper of a printing press includes a downwardly angled feed table extending between the pile and the press, sheets being fed in succession across the table. A periodically interposed front stop stops the sheet at the end of the table in position for pick-up by the gripper in the press. A side guide at the edge of the table and extending upwardly a short distance therefrom positions the lateral edge of the sheet. A wiping assembly wipes the sheet toward the side guide as it settles against the front stop. To keep the sheet on the table a flexible leaf spring presses downwardly on the sheet in the region of the side guide. A holder engages the upstream end of the spring for holding it at a shallow angle and in a slightly sprung condition.
